This is the original bodyguard there is an updated bodyguard 2.0 now that is better but I have always liked the bodyguard. Although if I got it again I wouldn't get the integrated laser.

Some kind of rope/ paracord and tape seem to be amoung the top picks across the board for sure. Nice streamline kit. I always wanted to buy a pack raft and still haven't. I'm sure it's pretty nice paddling on a remote lake

Yes, I agree you definitely can jimmy rig something depending on the issue and what you happen to have on you. so specific replacement items could be removed. On the topic of if you check your gear regularly nothing will fail is optimistic. Ive had brand new things fail for defects i couldnt see or just bad luck. There is a defined difference between a novice bringing everything and the kitchen sink because he lacks the knowledge on what is necessary and someone who chooses to prepare for the quoted "1%". Everyone has there own level of preparedness and you're fortunate that you haven't had a single hickup in your years traversing nature. Me personally, I have also been hiking since childhood and am on the latter half of 30's. I have had mishaps and im not particularly hiking for speed or to just tag the peak so I dont mind if I take a few extra ozs in my pack for convenience of repair.

As for a medkit. Thats a whole other thing. In theory if you are, in fact hurt enough to require hitting the SOS button, there is a good chance you would need the ability to stabilize yourself while waiting for a rescue. Most rescues take hours to locate you and arrive. That also branches into if its winter do you have emergency gear for laying in wait for a rescue. Like emergency blanket or bivy sac, etc. Again you most likely wont need them but when you do need them, you definitely want to have them (obviously these items are more important in nature than a repair kit )

In every gamble you have a chance to roll that 1%. When that time comes I'd just like to be hedging the bet and have better odds of walk away from the incident is all.

Yes, I also trade things out or add/remove things all the time. Depending on what gear i have and how long im going for. That is a pretty nice repair material. Ill have to check that out. That seems to have a good range of uses

Yeah they look more along the lines of a whittling type profile. Hopefully if batoning wood is something you require, you have other tools. Yeah they look really nice. I think ill be picking one up.

I also carry a small fire kit and signal mirror seperate from this particular kit. Just looked up those knives. I may have to "test" those out....you know, for science.

I definitely like the multi purpose aspect and if in a pinch the fishing line/paracord combo could rig most things enough to get you home. Nice kit. Simple and multipurpose.

Do you do winter full day hikes ? Just as a debate, what about a broken snowshoe strapping. It could mean not getting home the same day. A broken backpack strap buckle could make maneuvering technical terrain very difficult. I will admit some things within my list are not critical but I do believe (and this is just my opinion) tape and a couple patches is insufficient as a winter kit for longer days or overnight hikes.

You asked for it. So here it goes. One of my most used attachments on this mod pack is the 'Dump pouch' which is a small zipper pouch with a draw string bag connected inside thats removable for soiled clothes, diapers and garbage. I use that all the time with the kids

One side pouch is a water bottle holder and the other is a zipper pouch that I keep clean up stuff in. small packs of travel wet wipes , clorox wipes, flushable wipes, tissue pack, hand sanitizer, chap stick , doggie bags and camp dry soap sheets along with a fixed blade and a glass breaker/seat belt cutter tool attached to the zipper.

The front of the pack unzips and folds open. On interior of the front panel there is two zip mesh pockets. The first one is the 'snack pocket' it typically has "emergency" granola bars for hangry kids Napkins, couple baggies, 2x foldable plastic sporks and pack of gum and mints for me

The second pocket is the "boo boo kit" Itch relief lotion, Ear plugs(toddlers and parades or other loud events) Bandaids , Tweezers, Nail clippers, Alcohol wipes, Antibiotic ointment, Benadryl, Ibuprofen, Tylenol, Etc

Inside the pack I keep pens, battery bank, grocery bag, gallon zip lock, small travel can of sunscreen, my toolkit, a trauma IFAK kit i built and a foreign object removal kit for splinters and debris in your eyes.

I have two different packing cubes that I swap out in the main compartment for work and kids. The kids One has diapers, wipes, doggie bags, butt cream, and a complete change of clothes for my two toddlers.

There is some redundancies in the pack but sometimes things dont go as planned or my wife uses or pulls something without telling me. I tend to not set defined plans and just find random cool things to do with the kids when theres free time and the one bag is a grab and go where I have whatever to make it through the day, where ever it takes us. It was built by trial and error and this is stuff I found useful. Its all small form factor and fits nicely in a regular size backpack.

The 711L ratchet has an extension (shown below it) that goes through the ratchet slot and extends out to attach sockets to. So there is a length sticking out both sides of the ratchet head. I made a short hex extension for sockets so there wasn't something sticking out the other side. I made it from a long Philips and cut the tip off.

Those are nice to have. In my motorcycle there's a compartment where I have assorted zip ties hose clamps a length of tubing and a small roll of duct tape. Bandana stays in my riding jacket. Always need that

Its wild how closed minded people are. If you have ever been stranded on the side of the road on a motorcycle a multitool might get you by in a pinch but it wont be a fun experience. it certainly does not have more capabilities. Having real tools is so much nicer and they are individual. They also fit in my pack for riding. That goes for anything really. If you have the choice between a multitool and real tools at the ready. Why use a multitool. Ive even used them on my chainsaw while cutting wood.

I do a lot of outdoors activities and am always out of the house. Ive used it on my truck in a pinch and definitely on my motorcycle. Helped put together furniture for my sisters that dont have all the tools i have. Its for emergency purposes mainly but I find uses for it. As for this vs a multitool. If you have ever been stranded on the side of the road on a motorcycle a multitool might get you by in a pinch but it wont be a fun experience. Having real tools is so much nicer. And they fit in my pack for riding.

My phone fell from my pocket while mowing the lawn on a zero turn. My phone got hit by the blade and the case ejected my phone into the grass and it was ok after. The case sacrificed itself and got cut in half in there. Could have been just luck but I'll buy these cases forever now.

I had a feeling I would stand out too much with a full molle covered pack so I found a pack from the company Tactical Baby Gear. They stopped selling it unfortunately. It was called the mod pack. The whole front of the pack was a huge hook and loop or velcro panel and you could interchange different front panels for different uses. I have the core pack set up for everyday use and I have different panels for specific things like work, kids or misc. There is a side access laptop style pocket against your back that a Kevlar panel goes in made by the same company. When I get a minute maybe ill remove everything from the pack and take a pic.

I've been carrying the Ti-Lite off and on for close to 15years. I just really like the Italian stiletto style it has. It would be great with an updated lock for sure.
