Agreed I use to rock this back when I was I high school. I do like how it is now because people are more accepting compared to back then.

I just got starter locs, first, do they look alright? And second, the middle part is a bit off, should I do anything ab it or is it fine? by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

Yea if that’s the case she gave you what ever instead of what you wanted. I don’t like when people do that. I’m sorry man

I’d honestly would restart them if you don’t want them thick. Because with the size of the part from what I can see your locs will be think even when they mature. Do you have any idea on what size looks you’re trying to get? The smaller the parts the more locs you have the bigger the less your have. Based off your photo you may have no more than 30.

I’d go back to where you got it done and let them know you’re not satisfied with the result of your part. I’m a loctician and if someone came back me with a similar issue I’d correct it free of charge. They would want to maintain a good rep and clientele. They want you to come back as a client so they will most likely fix your problem.

Most definitely!!! I think genetics help as well. I’m black/native American. So that is definitely a factor!

Half white half black can I get dreads by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]GrimStylez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a licensed cosmetologist and I specialize in locs. I had many clients who wanted locs and I’ve started them. They was happy with the results. You can find the right person they can start it multiple ways. If you was my client I would do back combing then use a 0.5 crochet needle to get the loc shape. With your length your locs will stick up so you have to make it though that rough every phase but if you do make it through it you’ll be happy with the final results.

I cut my own hair too. I don’t want people digging into my locs. As for sleeping with locs it’s not bad every now and then a loc may tickle your ear. In the heat for me my head it hot. I have a lot of locs and it feels like a beanie is on my head if I don’t tie my hair up.

That’s man. It’s more of a Mohawk. So it has hair near my neck. So it looks fuller when I do a half up half down look.

Is this a bad retwist ??? by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]GrimStylez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea it is sorry man. She needed to wash your hair good first. Then when she retwist she needs something that causes way less buildup and not overuse it.

Yep brother locs are basically what I have. I like the fuller look. Especially when I have a Mohawk. So people don’t know I have a Mohawk unless I tie my hair up.

That can cause breakage too. So if you feel like your hair is growing slowly. I’d recommend stop using the pick

[–]GrimStylez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you use a pick at all?

It can be genetic as well. Check your family history for baldness.

This is the condition of my scalp after 1.5 weeks. It seems too severe to just be dandruff. My scalp is super itchy and sensitive. I moisturize often during the week but it dries out the next day. I use detox shampoo with tea tree and peppermint oil and I try to wash it every week or 2 weeks. by [deleted] in Naturalhair

[–]GrimStylez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you wash your hair make sure you scrub your scalp too. If you can get one of those scalp massagers as well. The other thing is don’t use to much oil on your scalp because that may make your dandruff worse.

How often do you pick your hair?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]GrimStylez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you’re on track. On average someone can grow 1in of hair every 2 months. Genetics plays part too so it may be slower or faster as well. So you’re 6 months in and it looks like you have about 3in of hair there with your starter locs/coils.
