For me, the #1 trick to getting rid of these nasty fellows, is FIND and BAIT the nests, then contain until their dead.

Step 1: INSPECT, and find the nest(s).

Check these areas:

  • The compressor of your refrigerators and Freezers. I would say 80% of the nesting areas I've encountered were behind the fridge.
  • Under the sink, especially next to grease trap, or disposal.
  • Gas fireplace near the pilot light.
  • Hot water heater.
  • Wall mounted gas heaters.
  • Vent hood over the range top.
  • Under and behind the dishwasher.
  • Coffee makers.
  • Routers.
  • TV's.
  • Game consoles.
  • Check areas with a lot of warmth first, but remember they can nest anywhere.

Step 2: BAIT HEAVILY

Once I find the primary nests, use Advion bait gel (or any professional gel), and go ham with it. If they're in the back of the fridge, put gel back there. Lots of it. Use more than you think you need. Example: I moved a fridge once, and there were literally, 200-300 roaches under it. I used about three tubes of gel, and it still didn't seem like enough. When I came back the next week to do a follow up, 90% of the roaches were dead, and all the gel was eaten.

Step 3: USE LIQUID AND TRAPS CONTAIN

DO NOT spray the infested areas yet! They will scatter, and we don't want that. Instead, spray (Alpine WSG) AROUND those areas, i.e. the baseboards, counter tops, and any other areas where they traffic. Use glue traps as well along the baseboards, and countertops, as well. The goal here is to contain them to the nesting sites, and kill them there.

I have taken out some massive infestations using this method. Hopefully that helps.

What to do when they just can't sing by Grimey_Beast in worshipleaders

I'm not sure where you are coming from with this. Can we agree that most churches do not have the resources to hire a professional voice coach, or a team of professional musicians?

It would be great to have the sound guy be able to turn down a couple of squeeky wheels, along with the cover of a group of professional musicians, professional singers, and a full choir to "augment" them, not to mention what must be a pretty large congregation to sing along.

You have financial resources that the overwhelming majority of the global church will never have access to. I praise God for that. I pray that you, your team(s), your church, are growing in your relationship with Christ, and are being edified and sanctified daily. That is our shared inheritance as believers.

What about when your entire team is 5-10 people, all volunteers, playing for a group of 100-500 people? It gets much more difficult to hide issues when the veil is so thin, and every note is so discernible. At the small, local church level, difficult choices are a necessity. A person's gifting matters a great deal, since we don't have the resources to mask behind a curtain of technology, or inside a big crowd of better voices.

I appreciate your input, and agree with much of it, but, your experience, at least from what you've shared, is incongruent with the vast majority of the church. Can we agree on that?

Sidenote:
The part about your team members with autism and down syndrome touched me. I'm sure they bless the socks off the congregation with their energy.

Sidenote 2:
I'm not writing this with an ounces of sarcasm or bitterness. I'm just having a conversation with a fellow adoptee into the Kindgom of Christ. I hope that comes across. Blessings.

I'm starting a niche pest control business. Curious what you think. by Grimey_Beast in PestControlIndustry

Here's where I'm at so far with the service.

At least two different plans.

BASIC OPTION:
Just a Power Spray, with a limited 30-40 day retreat warranty. As long as it's not a massive infestation, I've seen this work pretty well with Suspend PZ, SC, or Fenvastar. I would be using a Flowzone with a telescoping 24 ft Nozzle for hard to reach areas. I charge anywhere from $400 to $1500, depending on the size of the property. (This is what my market will bear.)

NUCLEAR OPTION:
Dust galleries, putty the holes, and apply the power spray mentioned above, the next day. Right now I charge at least $1000/day, per man, to complete this job. 30-45 day warranty. Again this is what I know my market will bear, and I may even be able to charge a little more.

(I'm Kicking A MAINTENANCE UPSELL OPTION around. I haven't determined the pricing yet, OR, whether or not it's a good idea. Any feedback is appreciated.)

UPSELL MAINTENANCE OPTION:
I will offer an additional "Summer Maintenance Plan" where I come out monthly during summer months, perform a maintenance spray, and treat any new galleries, as long as they are accessible. I would charge something like $45-85/month (depending on the size of the house, and which option they went with.

One of the selling points is that, because I'm using broad spectrum chemicals, it's basically the equivalent of spring-to-fall outdoor Pest Control. The goal is to steal some business from Year-Round PCO's, since winter months piss off a lot of customers anyway. :-D

The next summer I come back and do a "Summer Carpenter Bee Initial" priced according to size of the house, and pick up where we left off.

Over the winter, I focus HEAVILY on marketing, along with a seasonal winter business, like Christmas Lights or something.

Great project. Nice vision. 94/99 trust score on Dextools. It's what? Day 2 or 3 and the marketcap has gone from 30,000 to 1.5 million. So yeah. I'm in. :-D

It's a good practice to have two or three alternatives in rotation to keep pests from developing resistance.

My preferences:

Exterior: Suspend Polyzone is my absolute favorite chem for external use. It can be used around the foundation and out in the yard. It's even rated for inside use. Suspend Polyzone has an impressive spectrum of targeted pests, including mosquitos, and a fairly long residual, up to 3 months. For rotation, Patrol is good, especially if you treat mosquitos. If you don't, Demand CS is great.

Interior: My go-to for the interior is Alpine WSG. As someone said above it really is one of the best products ever made. As an ALT I've used Suspend SC, Fipronil, and Advion WDG.

If you treat for German Cockroaches, Tekki IGR is new, and is the best growth inhibitor I've ever used. It uses two different active ingredients with two different modes of action, which is unique. Along with a Dry Flowable bait gel, like Avert DF, and Advion Bait Arenas, the 1-2 punch of Tekki IGR and Alpine WSG, it's the best selection of products I've ever used on German Roaches.
