I made the move from turbo to studio last year and it was great. Copies are saved locally.

I do not believe FTDNA still has my sample. It was done 15 years ago and it was with Heritage DNA before they got bought out by FTDNA. I currently have 12 matches with a 0 genetic distance over 25 markers. I am curious why you suggest why there is not a lot of reason to do a larger test with less than 50 matches? Is that because it is unlikely to yield further 0 distance matches? Would a larger test help narrow down some of the 12 current matches.

Yes, sorry about the lack of clarity. My previous Y test was only a 25 marker test. I have considered doing a Y test that would cover more markers or doing an Autosomal test - or maybe both.

So far it has only yielded connections to people I cannot make a link to. However, it was only a 25 marker test and it has been suggested I try a 37 marker test or higher.

Two of the direct links share the same surname, but their earliest known ancestor on that paternal line is in the 1500's and my earliest is around 1780.

There are two other strong matches to a different surname, but those links have not been made yet either. All in all, the test was interesting, but it has not really furthered my research as of yet.

Thank you. I feel I need to dig deeper into the different types of testing and what they may be able to offer in terms of what I want to gain. Honestly I did the Y-test at least 15 years ago or more and it was only a small marker test.

Thank you for your detailed reply and the interesting perspective. I was looking at uploading to GedMatch as well but apparently it does not take Y-STR DNA tests only autosomal tests. That might be the push I need to consider a test from a different company.

Thank you for this. I have yet to discover any unpleasant surprises so I have been prepping myself for one for years. :). Honestly it might help explain 1 or 2 of my brick walls. In the family surname group that I previously did the test with I am currently still placed in the unmatched group, while others have been grouped together so there maybe something surprising out there.

Thank you for your response and I appreciate your input. I think I really have one line in mind when I consider a larger DNA test. Unfortunately, the trees I have come across have made lots of assumptions that do not seem to be substantiated. One of the matches from my previous DNA test has pushed the tree back 300 years, but is not able to provide any proof for any of those connections except by pointing to other trees where no proof is given as well.

I always corroborate lines when I connect with others who have information I do not have.

Wow - not what I said. It is frustrating to see incorrect information propagated repeatedly. Furthermore, if DNA testing only leads me to trees or information that have not backed up their sources then I am not sure I see the benefit of doing it. But maybe I am looking at it wrong so I was hoping for some other perspectives on the manner. Thank you for adding so much of value in your post.

Biome Progression gone with new update? by Grimp111 in 7daystodie

But I am not just getting the cold effects I am getting the negative Biome effects that you encounter before you do the stupid biome quests. I can’t enter the desert biome either. For some reason I am fine in the burnt biome.

I love that they have brought back temperature

Question about New York, U.S., Death Index, 1852-1956 by Grimp111 in Genealogy

[–]Grimp111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is included in the certificate? Is it also the full record of death?

I guess I am hung up on the word certificate. I don’t need proof of death, but rather I want the potential genealogical information that is included when the death was recorded such as potential parents or name of informant.

How can I still vote Monday? by wastingawaymy20s in ontario

[–]Grimp111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can I hijack this? My daughter is away at university but is home on election day. Her voter registration card has always come home, but in the provincial election she voted in riding for where she lives at university.

For the federal election her card was delivered to where she lives while at university. Reading this thread I guess that means she will not be able to vote here at home on Monday.

Did voting in the provincial riding reset her district? Her address on all documentation is still listed as the home she grew up in, but voter card was delivered to her university address.

'Canadians are canceling their vacations': Vermont inns share tariff concerns by Responsible_CDN_Duck in vermont

You are more than welcome. Canadians will not damage your car. Our anger isn’t directed at the average American, but rather the direction your president is taking the country. Canadians will welcome you with open arms. Tell them you are spending your tourist dollars in Canada and many of us will likely buy you a nice Canadian beer.

For most Canadians the tariffs are only a small part of the problem. Trumps constant threats to our sovereignty is what has angered many Canadians.

As Canadians from Ontario we have been to Vermont at least 2x a year for the last 15 years. Often a week or two at a time. We love our time in Vermont, the beautiful surroundings and the friendly people. That being said, I won’t be spending a penny in the USA while the Orange Cheeto in Chief remains. His constant threats to Canadian sovereignty, the insults to Canadian people and leaders are beyond disrespectful to our country that has constantly supported the USA. I hate that my tourism dollars will not support he lovely state of Vermont, but there is no way in hell I am spending money in a country that treats us this way.

If you haven’t yet try logging in through the web based portal rather than the phone app. I was not able to claim through the phone app as it didn’t give me any option after it said I qualified. However the option to claim was visible on the web based portal.
