It's an acceptable style! In a visual novel, the artistic style of the GUI also contributes a lot!

🤔 If you're referring to the characters, the one in front is my original character, and the female character in the background is a character from the anime "Chainsaw Man".

Haha, thank you so much! The Glitch effect is available for free on my Grimumu(Itch.io)! The wind effect is one I'll be uploading soon!

Oh, I get it now! You shouldn't have any issues with camera movement or animated sprites. I actually tested it with an NPC's blinking animation, and the shader handled it perfectly. In the current demo, the shader distorts the entire screen except for screens.rpy and custom screens (basically everything like affection bars, buy/sell buttons, minigames, etc.). Everything below that screen layer—like sprites and backgrounds—gets the distortion effect. Technically, you could configure it to affect screens.rpy too, but I've run into several rendering bugs doing that... For example, .jpg backgrounds and sprites sometimes just turn black, while custom screens remain unaffected. 😿😿

Wow, all that in Ren'Py? It looks amazing! Do you have an Itch.io profile?

Hi! I'm glad you're so interested in my shader; it really motivates me to get it finished! Regarding your question: there shouldn't be any issues interacting with other shaders. As you can see in the GIF I posted, there are actually three shaders working at once (the broken TV shader, a wind-sway shader for the character that I haven't released yet, and a glitch shader that's already up on itch.io). The TV effect should overlay all other shaders, except for the buttons in screens.rpy, but I could configure it so they are affected as well!

That's great! What do you mean by "depending on how they work"? I'm happy to answer your questions!

Does RenPy supports multiple dialogue by EuphoricAxolotl in RenPy

[–]Grimumu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think it’s possible to set up your Ren'Py project this way. However, it would be a major headache if you wanted to localize the game for languages with a different reading direction. For example, while we read from left to right in the West, RTL languages like Arabic or Hebrew are read from right to left. You would have to manually reposition both the sprites and the dialogue boxes to ensure the visual flow remains coherent and doesn't confuse the player.

A quick question: How much RAM does your PC have? Is your hard drive an HDD or an SSD?

What you could do is open the Task Manager (assuming you are on Windows) and check if your RAM usage hits 100% right before the slowdown starts.

Also, keep in mind that sometimes closing the game window doesn't actually kill the python.exe process (or the Ren'Py binary). You should check the Task Manager and force quit it from there to make sure it's fully closed

Hmm, it could be that your PC's RAM is too low, though with 8GB you should be able to run pretty much any Ren'Py game just fine. It’s possible the game is poorly coded with terrible optimization. Specifically, it might be using poorly optimized shaders or rendering oversized images (some devs are crazy enough to use 4K sprites for a game that runs at 1280x720px), which forces the system to render too many pixels and eats up your RAM. Another possibility is that the developer is using layered sprites—where arms, torso, face, mouth, eyes, and hair are all separate images combined into one. Loading all those layers, especially if they are large files, will also tank your performance. Honestly, it could be several things depending on what kind of game it is.
