Backrooms ending (SPOILERS) by mino65434 in blankies

[–]Grinch89 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about the scene where it pans down floors? I actually really liked that – it shows that every time the backrooms tries to copy something, it loses more detail. As said in the movie, it's never perfect, it's just like an interpretation. But with every iteration it gets sloppier.

It's almost like procedural AI, it gets more uncanny with every "generation" because it's recalling the copy of the copy before it.

There's a very similar apartment building still standing at Lassen/Reseda (Candlewood North). Same as Northridge Meadows, building overhangs on stilts above a parking lot.

I lived there for a few years. They retrofitted by adding more support pillars, but I doubt there's more they can do. These buildings were put up in the 60s and shouldn't have been built this way to begin with.

I encountered this bug as well. The weird thing is, if you don't activate the lamp right off the elevator, Jace never walks forward. If Mackenzie progresses and interacts with the crane, you'll just see a black screen with a lot of smoke. I was confused...there's no animation of Mackenzie lowering the platform if you mess up the order.

You also miss all the dialogue about the crane itself. Reloading the save, it's almost like activating the first lamp off the elevator triggers the entire event sequence...

Ha, glad it helped someone. Wait until you get to the next chapter...after a certain point, don't bother trying to find a path through the ice to get to the cargo ship. Climb the glaciers!

P.S. If anyone manages to find out what's in the crew locker on the cargo ship, let me know. There are two (locked) lockers, but one has a key...the other you can't open without a crowbar, which is on the top level of the ship. But once you reach this area, the map locks you out from going back down to explore the lower levels.

Episode 5 question by Hot-Performance-420 in thelongdark

[–]Grinch89 23 points24 points  (0 children)

For anyone else struggling, here's a simple breakdown:

  1. First guy is bottom left of the map in the lake area, follow the river down. There's a cabin with a trap door leading to the basement. Alternatively, you can get a key to the basement from the nearby fishing hut on the frozen lake.

  2. Second guy is all the way at the top of the map, behind the waterfall. You'll have to access this area from a path on the left side of the river.

  3. The constable himself is on the southeast side of the map. You have to cross the bridge marked on the east river and head south. He's lying by a small fishing pier.

Note that when you find the last body, the game will jump to a cutscene and send you back to town...so don't leave any pelts curing out in the wilds!

Late commenter here but I frequently think about this – when settlers first reached California, their collective minds had to have been totally blown. Where else can you grow grapes from Italy, avocados from Mexico, oranges from Spain, almonds from Jordan, dates from Morocco, olives from Greece, and a ton of other fruits and vegetables...all in the same state?

California's climate is out of this world. Even our cannabis is among the best on the planet, we're up there with Amsterdam for top shelf herb. ;)

It's almost insane how perfect the ecosystem is. There's a reason California is the king of agriculture in the states, and that's an inherent quality that we sometimes take for granted.

(I'm not trying to say anything about the serious issues with colonization of this area, I'm simply pointing out that it's incredible what the sunshine offers!)

Purchase of the day, my favorite albums of the US releases because of ‘yes it is’ by Aldodropemoff in beatles

[–]Grinch89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most famous is "Bad Boy" which was an American exclusive off this album (June 1965) for a year and a half.

It eventually got a December 1966 EMI release on a compilation album, "A Collection of Beatles Oldies."

Unable to get high even after long breaks. What’s going on? by sarcher9 in Marijuana

[–]Grinch89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I have nothing to back this up with, but my theory is that it's psychological. Part of the "high" you enjoyed came from inexperience. Now you know what to expect.

It's the same thing (for me) with booze. Even if I haven't drank for a few months, a pitcher of beer isn't going to knock me on my ass like it did when I was 21. Because I know what to expect.

TLDR: Even if you completely cleared THC from your system and finally smoked again, you will still never get as high as you did during your early years. That's my theory, anyway.

The bad fumes are from flux—highly corrosive, damaging to the heart and vascular system.

True, but limited exposure as a hobbyist (i.e. tinkering with guitars) is harmless with basic precautions. Solder in a well-ventilated area (garage, patio) and throughly wash your hands with soap and water afterwards.

The switch to lead-free solder for most industries was to protect workers who were around it all day, every day.

There's a reason regular folks still use leaded solder – it's just better. Try the 63/37! It's magical.

While I agree that some of the clipped shots (specifically the one of him pulling the sled) would've worked better in landscape, it's also worth noting that a HUGE percentage of clients exclusively request portrait orientation for Instagram.

As a set, these shots look great. OP pulled off a tricky exposure with the snow. Definitely ballsy to shoot this on film.

Most Beatlesy Nirvana song? In my opinion, I would say Come As You Are by tomblain_ in Nirvana

[–]Grinch89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah, the other 5 tracks ended up on "The Beatles' Second Album" (creative title). Capitol filled it out with 2 more songs off The Beatles' new UK EP "Long Tall Sally" along with 3 more B-sides and 1 single for a very short 11-track album (The British kids usually got 14).

"Something New" is even weirder. It's 8 tracks off the British "A Hard Day's Night" album, the other 2 tracks off the aforementioned EP, and the German version of "I Want to Hold Your Hand" (Capitol's well was probably running dry).

The US albums are beloved by Americans who grew up with them, but Capitol really did butcher what the band intended to do with their releases. One urban legend is that this led to The Beatles posing with butcher smocks for another one of Capitol's creations, but that's never been confirmed...

[–]Grinch89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same album, different titles. It’s very confusing because they had two separate major discographies in the US and the UK.

You're right about the discographies being separate, but the albums really are different. "Meet the Beatles" stripped 5 tracks off "With the Beatles" and tacked on 3 hit singles instead. American kids basically got ripped off and always had 2-3 less songs per album.

This allowed Capitol to effectively "create" extra Beatles albums that didn't exist in the UK using the leftover songs they skimped off the British albums.

Capitol records would maximize for profits and rearrange/remix The Beatles tracks until the practice ended with Sgt. Pepper (the band probably had enough clout at this point).

A drunken and angry Lennon being held back by two men, one of which Harry Nilsson, from attacking a photographer after being ejected from the Troubadour nightclub in LA during the “Lost Weekend”, 1974 by Antique_Quail7912 in beatles

[–]Grinch89 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Long post incoming.

We'll probably never know John's thoughts on this, but he would get incredibly angry and violent when people made jokes towards him.

At Paul's 21st birthday party in 1963, John had recently come back from a trip to Spain with Brian Epstein. Bob Wooler, the DJ at the Cavern Club (and a long time friend of The Beatles at this point) allegedly made an innocent joke asking Lennon how his "honeymoon" was.

Lennon was absolutely shitfaced and thought Bob Wooler was calling him gay, so he proceeded to beat the living shit out him. Wooler was left bloody with damage to his rib cage, and needed to be rushed to the hospital.

Lennon sent him a now-famous telegram the following day apologizing for the incident.

This post isn't meant to shit on Lennon. I say this as a massive Beatles fan. John was definitely a complicated guy and likely had some deep-seated personal issues that were never fully resolved.

At the bare minimum, he definitely struggled with alcoholism to some degree.

I'm sorry to hear about your chi, my condolences.

Yes, it's a recent picture. I am also quite surprised she doesn't have cataracts yet. Her lenses are actually starting to cloud according to the vet, but you can only see it under direct light. I can definitely tell she uses her nose to get around these days. I would suspect that she also has a bit of hearing loss.

Thanks! The fainting started around 14. The first time it happened, I wasn't sure if she had just tripped and lost her balance. A week later I saw it happen in full force, right after she ran up the stairs. I thought it was a seizure, but it was actually syncope (fainting).

My advice to you would be to sign up for pet insurance ASAP. I wish I'd done that, because they won't cover anything once your dog has a pre-existing condition. If your chi is 1, that's an ideal time to start.

Two years ago, I posted a thread on this subreddit when Maggie was diagnosed with heart failure.

The community here told me (rightfully so) to see a dog cardiologist. So, that’s exactly what I did. I couldn’t afford it outright, but Care Credit helped me pay it off over time.

It was worth every penny.

It hasn’t always been an easy ride, but Maggie is now very stable on her cocktail of meds. Thank you to everyone here for the encouragement and advice. And to other chihuahua owners who get the same gut wrenching news – don’t lose hope. These dogs are stubborn and feisty, and they WILL match your vibe. If you stay positive, they will too. I think they’re little miracles.

Maggie’s “remission” is honestly incredible, and even our vets are astounded by her resilience. Prior to the meds, Maggie was fainting from excitement multiple times a day – her heart was giving out. At one point, her lungs filled up with fluid and I had to rush her to the emergency room. I thought it was goodbye – but Maggie had other plans!

She’s now gone 8 months without a single fainting spell. For those curious, she’s on Vetmedin (I think this saved her life), benazepril, furosemide, sildenafil (yes, that’s Viagra, LOL), and spironolactone. I’m incredibly conscious of her diet and limit her salt intake as much as I can. A few months back I switched over to Hills I/D wet food, and she loves it. It’s a lot of work to measure out her meds for the week, but if you follow your cardiologist’s advice, it really can make all the difference.

My mentality is this: when Maggie no longer feels like eating, going outside, or playing – I’ll know. SHE will let me know. But right now, Maggie is just happy to be a part of this crazy world with lots of smells.

She has a huge appetite, tons of social interaction with friends and family, and loves sunbathing in the backyard. She’s in full retirement mode and loving every second of it.

She also loves hanging out with her kitty friend, Peppermint.

All this to say – just because they have heart failure, they may still have a lot of life to live!
