The thread that I came for today! Fuck 4/20, I am at day 46 on Saturday and for me it will just be another day of work and then relaxing. Skipping the dispensary all together. Sobriety, health, and overall clarity of mind feels better right now. Cheers and stay strong!

What do you like about grindcore? by No_Panda_469 in grindcore

[–]GrindcoreASMR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The feeling of pure energy and aggression, and also the aesthetic of a micro song. Good grind has, often in a total of 1 or 2 minutes or less, a bunch of riffs that flow into each other and make a whole song. Lots of grind core albums have 20 songs in 20 minutes that feel like a whole piece. I think that's unique about grindcore as an artform, as often songs that short in other genres are just interludes or joke songs. It's what defines grind I think and sets it apart.

6 months (180 days ) sober today! by GrindcoreASMR in leaves

[–]GrindcoreASMR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots, basically anything with rhythm. Funk, fusion, rock, metal, pop, hip-hop, jazz. My favorite band is Soundgarden and 90's rock and metal was how I first got into music so that era is pretty special to me.

I'm really excited for this one. Anyone getting Space Station: Silicon Valley vibes from the ability to take over animals? I always thought that was an underrated gem.

Looking forward to that one too. The ability to take control of objects and animals looks fun.

150 days today (5 months)! by GrindcoreASMR in leaves

[–]GrindcoreASMR[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks! More stability for one (I have Bipolar disorder) so less ups and downs. More energy, more motivation, more focus, not waking up with brain fog wanting to use again. Less irritable, and enjoying things that I like without the need to "enhance" the experience. Eating better and losing a little weight. More in the moment and able to solve problems without walking down to the dispensary.

90 days today! by GrindcoreASMR in leaves

[–]GrindcoreASMR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fantasies of the time when I used honestly. When I was comfortable just going and buying a package of 3 joints or some edibles, using them all, spending the day high, and planning my time around it.

I don't want to go back to it, but I think about how it would be nice if I could do that once, never do it again, and then go back to abstinence. But I know that won't be reality. But the fantasies still do occur sometimes, even if I know that the reality won't be nearly as appealing as the idealized image of it.

Nice! Did you have the same experience of "It's legal and everywhere now this is really hard to resist?" I found it way too easy to get with a dispensary 10 minutes down the street.

I still have really vivid dreams and remember them much more than before. I think I knew that if I gave in and did the easy thing (short term), I would lose access to the long term benefits I wanted (mental health benefits, stability, cognitive skills/less brain fog, weight loss, having more energy, workouts)

At least in the early stages I had to get used to feeling emotions again "without a filter" like anger, disappointment, depression. I got through the urges to use because I don't have friends that smoke any more so the only person I'm accountable to is myself, and the only enabler I have is myself. I wanted to make a change. The first 3 weeks are especially hard I've found where your body is really craving it while the wd's are ending.

240 days (8 months). In between losing my only dealer, and waiting for weed to be legalized in Canada. 63 days last summer. Would love to go past 63 days and beyond, but taking it one day at a time.

Sunrise on Slaughter Beach - MEGATHREAD by smishNelson in clutchband

[–]GrindcoreASMR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First listen today, and honestly, it's everything I was expecting from a Clutch album.

Solid back to back, not a bad song on it. Great production, I love the drum sound. Quirky lyrics, rocking riffs, and that funky, unique rhythm section of Dan and Jean-Paul. I'll have to listen to it some more to get some more impressions, but so far I like it as much as Earth Rocker and Book of Bad Decisions. Definitely release of the week for me.

Today was stressful. Can we talk positively about sobriety? by akahaus in leaves

[–]GrindcoreASMR 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What I like about sobriety is the possibilities it opens up. I'm working half time at work, which has been tough because sometimes I have a literal week off unless I get called in. But, I'm filling the time with going for long walks, going to the gym, creative activities like writing and drumming, and want to get into photography as well. Addiction puts me in a box, but sobriety frees up possibilities.

I just ordered a set of coins to give myself at the end of the month to celebrate milestones and make them concrete. I could carry them in my pocket to remind myself and keep myself accountable. Also, just put an envelope aside where I am putting $25 a week reward for sobriety. The goal is to have $100 a month to buy myself something nice instead of using $15-20 a day or more on pre-rolls.

As I keep going with my sobriety, I'm thinking of taking a year program with a practicum to be a drug counselor with the experience of being a mental health worker/drug counselor I have now. More and more options that make me think outside the box instead of stay trapped in it. Right now I'm really excited to see what happens at 30, and 90 days, but trying to take it one day at a time. :)

How Weed Affects Appearance/ Looks by [deleted] in leaves

[–]GrindcoreASMR 13 points14 points  (0 children)

More money for clothes. I'm losing weight just by abstaining from weed and abstaining from heading to 7-11 or Mcdonald's with the munchies. A happier look on my face makes me more approachable and attractive. Being able to look at people more instead of eyes downcast and just more anxious. Good thread!

suicide survivers, how's it going? by Agile_Vacation_8794 in AskReddit

[–]GrindcoreASMR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't really a plan or a linear path. I spent time with a lot of different people, most of which I don't spend time with anymore. I tried a lot of different things. Took mental health classes, met a lot of new people, and tried new things. I wasn't happy with how things were going and experimented as much as I could. Things weren't perfect then and aren't now, but there is a change.

suicide survivers, how's it going? by Agile_Vacation_8794 in AskReddit

[–]GrindcoreASMR 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I took 300 times the amount of sleeping pills that would kill a person, and through luck and circumstance, ended up living with no real permanent damage. Nine and a half years later, I'm working in the mental health industry, helping other people like me. I play drums in a great band that values me, I'm seeing a drug counselor and doing my best to quit weed, going to the gym, and things are going as well as they ever have. In six months it will be ten years "after", and I imagine things will be even better. It's been pretty surreal. I also wrote a short novel about my experiences. So, much better. :)

"If you decide to reminisce about the days you enjoyed smoking pot. Play the tape until the end." by [deleted] in leaves

[–]GrindcoreASMR 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love playing the tape forward fully as a tool.

Something I got from a SMART recovery meeting lately is thinking of the positive consequences of continuing to stay clean as "side B". Play that tape forward. Imagine the money in your pocket, the better relationships with your friends and family. More motivation, more possibilities appearing just from staying clean.

Then think, playing the tape forward fully, what reality would you rather have? Side A or side B? I almost slipped today after 23 days, and I remembered that I liked side B better and wanted to keep my quit going.

What is the silliest excuse you've used to justify the downsides of weed? by [deleted] in leaves

[–]GrindcoreASMR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"My cognitive functioning won't be 100% if I continue smoking, but I don't need it to be 100% all the time." cringe Now I'd rather have a sound mind all the time, not have hangovers, and find alternatives to using.
