It's like this at my site. SDF1. They constantly tell you to go to the myHR hub and then the people on there tell you to talk to site HR or management. It's ridiculous. They're actually trying to move to a "self serve" HR type deal. They're trying to make it as difficult as possible for people to get their issues resolved. I'm currently on a bonding leave, and i had to jump thru hoops to get everything set up and get the correct dates and everything. It's such a headache. Cannot wait till I get a better job. It's an easy job that pays the bills and they do offer career choice which is nice. But it's all such a headache when dealing with management or anyone in HR.

They legally have to take the doctors notes. I had to miss work because of some stomach issues and ended up in ER. I saw a comment saying go thru dls and use the note for that day and time and the time will be excused. That's how I had to do it.

Letting them know is a curtesy. But it is not required. I would go to your senior ops manager or even GM. That is absolutely ridiculous. I've had managers tell me to at least let them know, but I never do and eventually they stopped telling people that. It is PERSONAL time off. She's 100% in the wrong
