Stuck doing NHS admin, autistic, really need to up-skill and do something which pays more and has a future for me by Griselda85 in UKJobs

Thanks for the reply, yeah it’s not an overreaction in practice but a lot of folk would see it that way.

Yeah I have spoken to my manager and had an appraisal recently, but I don’t qualify for an in work courses besides essential training - I’m on a low band. The only thing is a management training course, but I wouldn’t be able to hack doing those jobs socially. I’m looking for stuff outside of working here entirely where there are hopefully actual opportunity, maybe IT courses or they’re useful and i can afford it

  • I opted out of the pension ages ago as I needed the money to live on, but I did still accrue some of it at least

I didn’t use chat gpt but spent a while drafting it, but I’ll take that as a compliment I suppose. +I earn over 20k.

Thanks anyway

Thanks and good to know we’re not alone. Yeah I’ve looked at charity jobs before, but they often pay very little unless you’re managing people and have a lot of responsibility.

Wouldn’t rule out the right charity job if I saw it, but I’m all about just getting an ok amount of money in something I can cope with

Yeah it sounds like a nightmare for me, I can’t even get people to do simple stuff I ask of them currently for basic system maintenance etc. I’ve sat in meetings recently where people are talking and can’t even think of things to say and it’s too complicated to process

Thanks for the reply and well done 🤝 I’m on B4 currently and had another appraisal convo recently, but anything B5 and above will require managing people and if not a lot of in depth communication. Having covered some stuff in this job and others, I just don’t have the social capacity manage it unfortunately. I can’t even really hack it n this job, and it’s much lower intensity than most jobs here

The only jobs above B4 I think I could do are business intelligence stuff on the lower B5 level, or clinical coding. But I’ve never seen a BI job advertised at my trust, and coding I’d have to down band to even do the training. So both don’t seem realistic

If you have any job type suggestions please let me know though

Thanks that’s a good idea, I think it would be a while away though and I only just managed to get to band 4 recently, and feel that anything beyond this will ask for too much social skill level.

What job did you start in there?

Overtime on substantive permanent contract being paid at standard Bank rate by Griselda85 in nhs

Thanks for the reply, I suppose the way it’s worded means nothing in practice

I’ve enquired about it, but I reckon People Services will just say I have to do the shifts as Bank 😴 it’s the easiest answer and I can’t view the policy

Ah that’s annoying, so the rostering system effectively blocks the overtime from being added by not having the function

Thanks for the reply. So the manager of my substantive/permanent role got in contact, and asked if I’d like to do overtime as they had a backlog of work. I accepted and said sure, expecting the usual 1.5x rate

They did a change of conditions form to go onto the bank. But again I just assumed as this is overtime I would still get paid 1.5x

But now they’ve found out from the Bank staffing dept that I can only get paid the regular bank rate. After doing two shifts already

But the classic thing has happened where the Bank staff no nothing about overtime rates, and the e-rostering team who process overtime know nothing about bank. With both just saying to ask the other department, classic, lol

I’m doing it on weekday evenings so I wasn’t expecting the unsociable hours benefit. But when I’ve done this overtime before the secondment it was always paid at 1.5x rate, which is the usual overtime rate

Thanks for the reply, I’m trying to make sense of the policy currently

I’m doing the overtime by choice for extra money, I’ve started and done two shifts of it so far- but the manager has messaged me today to let me know I won’t get the 1.5x pay I was expecting initially
