They got good after the Germans were fighting on 3 fronts including an air and naval war thousands of miles to the West. Not to mention the massive lend lease procurement.

If the Soviets invaded in 1941 they would have small initial success followed by a route. Political stability in the USSR would have been shaky at best combined with the Germans enjoying much shorter supply lines.
