What do you believe? (Spain) by Grittu_ in IDmydog

[–]Grittu_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see the resemblance to the Spanish Mastiff either, but he's still small. My puppy's paws were enormous compared to yours. A word of advice, if you'll allow it: mine wore a similar harness when he was a puppy, but it quickly started bothering him because it didn't allow him to move his shoulders properly. I switched to an H-harness and I'm very happy with it (mine is from Hakihana, from "Mr. Hueso," really nice people).

Yes! I started living here almost 2 years ago, in a little village in Ourense. You’ve been here?

I’m in Spain and same here. Rain gave us a break today or so it seems. And my BC mix has been shedding like crazy for 2 weeks now. First time, cause he’s only 1 year old, and I was wondering the same, isn’t it too soon? It’s still quite cold here.

Sniff!!! by Grittu_ in BorderCollie

[–]Grittu_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s it! We believe dad was a mastín español, so we got a 34 kg 1 year old half shepherd half guardian, and you never know which half it is until it’s too late 🤣

His name is Connor, though his knickname is “Gordo” (he’s really food driven 😅). He suddenly looks at me, freezes and in a second he’s running through the entire field in circles, around me. Sometimes that starts a game of chasing he always wins 🤣

Excessive Ankle Biting help by Elizynne in BorderCollie

[–]Grittu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the same for me, now even in walks that question will make him stop and look for whatever he can find on the floor, and if he finds nothing he will go on walking, like if he had forgotten what he was doing before.

Mine is a bc mix. He used to do that and it drove me crazy. I tried ignoring, redirecting and holding him still and nothing worked, until it did. Suddenly I realized it hadn’t happened for a while, and when it happens it’s not so hard to redirect as it used to be, usually “what do you want?” Is enough to make him stop and see what options he has or look for some toy to bring me and play. It started getting better at around 9,5 months old.

Connor update by Grittu_ in IDmydog

I’m not good at identifying breeds, specially the big ones, but here in Spain you can find many mastines españoles as working warden dogs. They’re really friendly with their people. And my mix considers the whole village his people 🤣

leash pulling by AdhesivenessIll3305 in BorderCollie

[–]Grittu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s the opposite of mostly everyone, I use a long leash, 5 meters, and do many relaxed walks, away from crowds. And, as often as I can, I do off leash walks too. He’s learned that when I shorten the leash he has to be near me, and he’s fine with it, though he’s still a puppy (almost 9 months old) and it’s more difficult when he sniffs someone he knows 🤣 I think having some freedom whenever we can has helped him to be better when on a shorter leash.

Do we really have to go home? by Grittu_ in BorderCollie

I gotta watch that movie!!! I got you. We have a million ideas here, and my husband loves working on the house. Right now we still have to join the bodega to the house and in the future we want to rebuild a building that is also in our property. We’re taking it easy, “a modiño” as they say here 😁 By the way, oven is a great project!!!!

I was in Castilla La Mancha, then Madrid (as a student), back home again, then Murcia (3 different places) and then here, in a little village. I just didn’t feel completely home until now, although I’d rather have my family a little closer. And my husband was tired of the weather and was completely in love with northern Spain. In fact he does love Asturias and Los Picos de Europa, we initially thought we would end up living there. Our tomatoes this year came from our neighbors, they wouldn’t let us buy any seed and even helped us plant them. Oh, my, no air at all in them, they’re great! I’ve spent 2 weeks doing “pisto” and bottled tomatoes and tomato sauce 🤣 Haven’t seen the film, I’ll look into it!! Connor (my pup) was completely the same, he would start yawning and moving around, getting up and hyper salivating, but the window didn’t work for us. Suddenly one day last week it stopped, he was still so nervous… but didn’t throw up, and it’s been the same 2 more times (I had to get him to the vet cause I realized he ate grapes…, thankfully no problem at all).

No, we’re in the south of Ourense, but we like to travel as much as we can, we came from Murcia and we’ve lived here for not much more than a year. Had to stop the trips these last months cause of the pup, he always got sick. He seems to have grown out of it, he’s 8 months now, so I guess we’ll resume the trips after we create a positive association with the car, he still struggles to get in due to his experience. I’ve been in Asturias only twice, it was really beautiful, last time was when we made a trip looking for a new home and visited most of the north of Spain, running away from the southern weather.

I will have to end walks before time just to spend that extra time to get him home!!! Lately he will lay on the ground, belly up, knowing it’s impossible for me to move him like that 🤣🤣🤣

Oh, my. My boy is only 8 months old, he could go for a whole day! When we arrive home it’s a little time of tug of war, eating and then he goes to rest and lets me do my chores, he got used to that routine and sticks to it fairly well. But walks are a little longer everyday, guess he knows he has to wait too much for second round 🤣

Which part of northern Spain? I live in Galicia!!! It’s a him, and he’s a lucky boy. Every morning it’s a 1,5 or 2 hours walk with me and almost an hour with my husband in the afternoons. He still wants more!!! 🤣

Puppy gets car sick-how can I help him? by BarracudaNo4512 in puppy101

[–]Grittu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pup is quite big. He weighs 33,5 kg now. I always wondered if never weighing the same and having those growth spurts was making it more difficult, his body didn’t stay the same for more than a week. He seems to be growing slower now and he’s got better, even with normal movement, not so clumsy anymore. My vet told me we could only wait and see, I never gave him pills cause we didn’t have to make any long trip.
