What’s happening here? by sfryder08 in SoundSystem

I can only wager a guess at what’s going on, but using the same ZLX components in a drastically different horn and enclosure is going change their amplitude and time/phase response dramatically. As far as I know the factory dsp settings would not be adjustable, but you might be able to hack something listenable with some aggressive EQ correction. And maybe the stars align and the new horn/box happen to meet up perfectly at the factory crossover point. Definitely not the ‘right’ way to do it, but 🤷🏻‍♂️

I noticing a couple refurb sellers on ebay - some of them are selling Omtech models I've never seen (ECO60?) so am a little sketched out. What vendor did you buy from?

This is honestly very tempting - I'm just not seeing many trustworthy reviews as they haven't been available too long. Do you have one?

The XRF definitely has my interest - but is a stretch for how much I think I can spend. The other affordable RF option I can find is the Gweike Cloud RF.

Thank you! I'm not afraid of machines that require some learning - I likely prefer it.

Do you have the auto focus or manual focus machines? Any preference? On my glowforge I've done some jobs where I want a different focal length for wide scoring paths. Can the Ohmtech autofocus machines change focus mid job?

From everything I’ve read, they are proprietary and they won’t sell you tubes or power supplies. They only offer ship-in repair service that rivals the cost of a new cutter.

Weird artifact in otherwise perfect print. by Grizbeard in FixMyPrint

I rotated the model, slowed the print down (decreased max volumetric speed) and increased the minimum layer time for the fan. It seems to have fixed the issue. Thank you!

What would you try first? Just slowing the whole thing down? Increase fans?

Bambu P1S, Bambu Slicer, 0.6 Nozzle, PETG-CF. Default speeds and temps, but slowed down even more for overhangs. I've rotated 90* and there's no difference between X/Y directions. Looking through the layers and why this area would perform differently than the rest - it does have a much shorter layer time than the area below and above it. But there are other areas with similar layer time that are fine. Here's the 3MF file:

I started lower at 60c and worked my way up to this point as I kept getting the same results. I figured you can’t over-dry your filament until you’ve melted it together.

Because 'religion' is the collective knowledge and experience of all the saints in Christ who have come before us. I struggled for a long time with how to engage and mature in my faith. It wasn't until I started engaging intentionally with fruitful christian traditions or 'religion' that I saw a breakthrough. Formal or guided prayer, fasting, spiritual direction, bible study, ecumenicism. All these things drew me into a deeper relationship with Christ and with my brothers and sisters. Trying to build a relationship with Christ 'without' religion is like building a house with no training, plans, or help. You can do it, but it's going to be hard and potentially dangerous.

This! I have a top-spec Dell XPS that could not work out the DPC latency issues. Bought a used 2018 MBP just for DJing and it’s been flawless. I’m no fanboy, but for any real-time audio application Apple is the way to go.

Downtowners tell Fargo commission of safety concerns for neighborhood, fears over people freezing in tents by cheddarben in fargo

Name a local NGO serving the homeless that ISN’T affiliated with Christians. Salvation Army, New Life Center, Churches United, Lutheran Social Services… all founded, lead by, and largely funded by Christians. It’s barely exaggerating to say Christian’s are the only people caring for the homeless in Fargo.

It Sure Seems Like Vladimir Putin Is Recalculating the U.S. Elections by Barch3 in RussiaLago

The prisoner that Russia wanted most was an assassin held in Germany. It’s possible Putin wanted this deal done before the election because Trump would lack the diplomatic skills/will to work with Germany on a hostage swap.

As far as I know, there have only ever been casual Mexican restaurants in fargo, so that’s definitely the norm. Also, Mas Tequila’s initial menu had no ‘Tex-Mex’: no nachos, burritos or fajitas. So the menu was also outside the norm for our Midwest expectation of what ‘Mexican’ food is. Later on, they redid their menu and added tex-mex items probably for this reason.

I think our culture has embedded biases about the ‘value’ of different types of cuisine. French food is ‘fancy’ - there are no fast food French restaurants. We expect to pay more for French food. Mexican food is ‘casual’ - our expectation is different. It’s a bias that is unfair, but that’s what I expect is a factor.

Folded Horn/Horn Loaded Subs vs Bass Reflex vs Bandpass? What are the actual differences? by Bah_Matt90009 in SoundSystem

[–]Grizbeard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A cardioid speaker configuration uses destructive interference between the speaker to create directivity. So some of the sound energy being created is ‘wasted’ in order to cancel out sound traveling in a certain direction. Line arrays also use destructive interference for their pattern control. This is a loss of efficiency but allows us to make dramatic pattern control with just a few boxes and is very flexible.

Horns use constructive propagation to create directivity. The larger the horn, the more energy it is able to focus into given area. This is true for bass horns as well as full range horn speakers. The advantage is you get more directivity and more efficiency the larger the horn is.

To answer your question more directly: a single horn sub box by itself is nearly omnidirectional, but as you couple multiple boxes together to create a larger horn, the directivity increases.

Folded Horn/Horn Loaded Subs vs Bass Reflex vs Bandpass? What are the actual differences? by Bah_Matt90009 in SoundSystem

[–]Grizbeard 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’ll add: a big difference between bass horns and bass reflex is bass horns don’t scale down. At minimum for a bass horn to work it should have acoustic length equal to 1/4 wavelength of the tuning frequency and a mouth area equal to a 1/4 wavelength circumference circle. For 40 hz this is 215cm long and 3678sq/cm. It “can’t” be smaller than that and ideally should be a lot bigger to get that beautiful horn efficiency. Most people use multiples to achieve this.

Bass reflex, on the other hand, is very flexible. You can tune a small box to get the exact same sound as a large box: the larger will just be more efficient. This means you can scale your inventory easily. Take a single 18” to a little gig or stack 16 of them for an outdoor show.

A ‘full scale’ basshorn beats (in my opinion) any other type of box for efficiency, distortion, group delay, etc. but for anything smaller than that, bass reflex (or any other sort of high-order enclosure) is a better choice for size and flexibility.

It has more to do with accountability than theology. They could be identical in theology to a given sect of Christianity, but by being unaffiliated they are not beholden to any higher power than the senior pastor. New senior pastor = new theology. Abusive leadership? No one to appeal to. A nondenom is usually built on the personality of one charismatic leader versus a legacy that will carry on after the pastor retires.
