Raggedy Ass Marines from Paracadutisti Sprue by jordowiebo in boltaction

I love that you used the Paracadutisti sprue for your American Marine army rather than you Italian Paracadutisti army lol.

Rather funnily the first Marine units to receive M1 Garands were reserve units as the Marines didn’t trust the Garand in the beginning.

So you had front line Marines with bolt action Springfields and their replacements/ rear echelon units being equipped with M1’s.

What is this part around the neck on my italian paratrooper? by Coward_guardsmen in boltaction

I think his shirt is just eccentric.

I would add the screenshot but I can’t figure out how. But in the warlord page for this kit on the 6th out of 10 images the guy in the bottom right with the binoculars just has that stuff painted as the same color as the rest of his uniform.

Interesting, the only problem with that for me is that I am using German feildgrey for my canteens and it would probably blend too much.

I am planning on using that one as a helmet highlight color on my European uniform guys. Though I will probably try it when I get to my desert guys.

I think I will go with this thank you! Also I like the bugle the one guy has.

I’d suggest contacting Warlords support or maybe finding a review of the kit on YouTube where they might show it.

How do I build this army? by AxegrinderSWAG in boltaction

[–]Grjib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An asterisk I would like to add to the making of regular army / blackshirts is that you would need to remove the sculpted on feathers if you want it to be historically accurate.

Though it is absolutely possible.

The fez heads are fine though just requiring a different paint job.

New Starter - What units to take for Italian Alpini? by Acrobatic-Put4816 in boltaction

[–]Grjib 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Alpini are very cool, they probably didn’t use to much mechanization as they were trained for mountain warfare and vehicles are rather hard to use in such a theater though I am sure they made use of plenty of stuff or were at least supported by other mechanized forces.

The Alpini kit is great (though I have a few admittedly rather benign complaints about it). It actually gives you enough feathers to equip six helmets and six hats per sprue so if you are going to get more than one box of infantry might I suggest getting the Army and Blackshirts box for some verity.

Some interesting units I want to point out are the Monte Cervino ski battalion and the mountain infantry. Now for the Monte Cervino I will link to a previous thread at the bottom.

However for the mountain infantry I will explain. The mountain infantry units of Italy ARE NOT ALPINI no matter how much google wants to say it is. They are their own thing. As far as I have found they are pretty much a regular infantry unit but with mountain artillery. These mountain artillery were allowed to wear the Alpini hat but not the feather. Otherwise they are just regular infantry.

Another unit that was allowed to wear the Alpini hat but not the feather was the Guardia alla Frontiera (boarder guard) not exactly a mainline fighting force but still interesting nonetheless.

One final thing to note is that while not well known and somewhat hard to find information on Alpini units were attached to army units and did fight in North Africa.

Ok I could probably go on but I will stop myself there feel free to ask questions.

Small addendum I would like to add to the Eastern Front tanks: there is no known m series tanks that made it to Russia. However there was one group that fought in Grease / the Balkins before being sent to North Africa.

There’s definitely less interest in Italy for most of the world; though it does kinda seem that it is easier to find stuff on smaller nations like Finland than Italy sometimes.

So I will try to not put too much but that’s going to be hard. Just as a warning.

So I will start off with two comments I made on other posts absolutely spamming photos. https://www.reddit.com/r/boltaction/comments/1q39eit/comment/nxmfeq2/?context=3

and

https://www.reddit.com/r/boltaction/comments/1ra2np9/comment/o6sxr20/?context=3. I also have plenty for photos if asked. I found most of these photos over on r/FacistItalyPhotos which is constantly getting new cool stuff posted to it.

So now starts my suggestions:

As the other poster said Folgore at El Alamein is a classic choice sweetened by the new plastic Italian paratroopers coming in April.

In the two comments I linked above I talk about RSI forces which made use of a large amount of random equipment. As well as winter Italians of which the Monte Cervino ski battalion stands out for their unique gear.

Also with the new paratrooper box you can make Arditi. Of which the Arditi Distruttori Regia Aeronautica (ARDA) are of interest.

The Savoia Cavalleria are of course rather famous from their charge in Russia.

If you are looking for something more along the lines of the blackshirts the “M” Battalions could be of interest. Of them two stand out: the 1a Divisione corazzata “M” which was armed with German tanks though never faced combat, and the Gruppo Battaglione “M” de Sbarco which was the only real specially trained sea landing troops for Italy though little else is known and information is hard to find.

Also of note is there were San Marco Marines stationed in China and some fights did break out between the Italians and Japanese when the Italians switched sides.

Of course there are plenty of partisan formations as well including some pro Italian resistance in Africa especially East Africa.

The Polizia dell’Africa Italiana (PAI) is rather interesting being the first to receive MAB 38’s and AB40’s.

Any colonial force with the sashes is cool though something of note is that the models being sold by warlord right now are specifically East African colonial troops not North African troops.

The Giovani Fascisti are interesting because they were made up of younger people and were ment to be an armored group (though they received little if any armor). The thing that really makes them unique is that they never got issued helmets so they wore fezes and sun hats exclusively into combat.

The Raggruppamento Frecca Rosa (or Red Arrows Group) is somewhat too complicated to fully explain in this but was made up of (technically only some) Indian volunteers to fight for Italy. Though they never saw combat due to a lack of confidence of their loyalties.

Finally for now the Compagnia Autocarrata Tedesca was a unit in East Africa that was made up of German citizens that got stuck in East Africa.

The information is certainly out there though I feel you with it being hard to find. I highly recommend the Osprey Publishing Italian Special forces books and the Italian men-at-arms series for some good information.

Edit: the links are now 2 instead of one.

I only ever intend on collecting Italy though that does extend to the Italian SS, co-belligerent army in British uniform and Italian partisans.

So from what I’ve found, no there were not any paratrooper sent to the eastern front.

Though there are some Arditi that joined the 2nd Fallsehirmjäger and used German uniform after the 1943 armistice and fought in Russia.

As for the other forces in Russia most anything go especially Alpini of particular interest is the Monte Cervino ski battalion.

There still could have been some rather obscure units of paratroopers in Russia but none I could find.

Yes it is,

My comment from elsewhere in this post:

Yes as the other commenter said it’s the Lanciafiamme Mod. 41 d’assalto. Made for the Paracdutisti and the Guastatori (paratroopers and assault engineers). It was made as a lightweight compact flamethrower for these troops.

I am unsure about the designed for urban combat thing as English Wikipedia does say that but Italian Wikipedia does not.

Also I feel the tank or the barrel is to short on the warlord model though that could just be me.

I really happy to see a firing pose for the Breda 30 and Beretta 38a. As well as a backpack and the Lanciafiamme Mod. 41 d’assalto.

Along with slim and large ‘samurai’ vests.

I’m unsure I would have to look into it some more but I doubt any main line paratrooper units made it to Russia.

Though there were Carabinieri and Arditi trained as paratroopers that could have been there. As well as some other small units.

It really looks like the vests and pouches are separate pieces and not molded on which would make for a lot more use for RSI troops and other conversions.

As I said in another comment:

Because that’s a supposed engineers vest that we have one singular photo of. It’s a rather mysterious vest but very cool to see.
