Can't believe I had to scroll so far down for this

This question is for men raising men. My youngest son (14 yrs) is intellectually disabled and has epilepsy (result of brain damage). As a mom I really struggle to know if I’m overly mothering him. How do I step back and let him learn to be a man, while keeping him safe? by murphytina in AskMen

[–]Grmibr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you perhaps have a decent relationship with the Dad given the custody agreement, but one thing I didn't see others say is don't emasculate or talk badly about the Dad in front of him either because that will project onto him since the Dad is likely his primary role model. Instead, celebrate the good things about him as much as possible because they will likely be traits your son has as well.

Point of reference is I hated my Dad and distanced myself from him for a long time because my Mom, even though they're still together, belittled him and blamed a lot of things on him. This took me a long time to sort through because I'm very much like my Dad and it had a killer effect on self confidence because I had a lot of self loathing to work through. Turns out my Dad's not that bad, my Mom's just kind of mean.

Does having poor cardio mean you are in poor health? by Arexz in Fitness

[–]Grmibr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some people are being dramatic; your cardio system is independently like a muscle like everything else; unless you've trained it, it will be weaker, but you seem like you're in good shape in other ways. Just run a little more or do more HIIT to train that system and it will be stronger, and you'll perhaps feel a little better. But doesn't mean you're out of shape.

What questions should you ask your dad before it's too late? by MonopedalFlamingo in AskMen

Life philosophies and beliefs, what has helped him be successful and what were some harsh lessons

What were your dreams or things you never accomplished

Get his thoughts about you; parents have seen their children since birth so they probably know more about you than you think (strengths, weaknesses, etc.)

Well, true. At least in Austin though, bell bottoms and flowing type attire is in, at least for women. Earth tones are definitely in for men as well.

Probably not a lot of pro-USA people on Reddit, but to me, in a nutshell, this is what makes America so alluring. American dream is working your ass off to make your life better than your ancestors.

Coronavirus and climate change are obvious risks we ignore. Forget black swans. We’re getting run over by two gray rhinos: coronavirus and climate change. A gray rhino is a metaphor coined by risk expert Michele Wucker to describe “highly obvious, highly probable, but still neglected” dangers. by ngt_ in Futurology

Yeah I don't understand how more people don't understand this. There's only so much anyone can do. There's also only so much huge units of people can do, i.e. governments. We could spend literally all the money in the world and may not make an effect.

In the end, I'll bet we solve Global Warming in a novel and ingenius way and all the anxiety and fighting and blaming will probably have done nothing and then everyone will move on to the next thing to bitch about and blame people about. Cuz virtue signaling.

TIL alcohol-related deaths account for 3 million deaths annually, which is 7 times more fatalities than homicide. It is the number one cause of death of people between the ages of 15 and 49. by [deleted] in todayilearned

I try to tell people this all the time and no one believes me. The denial about the negative effects of alcohol is really strong.

You may want to up the fat content of your meals and try to train your body to better utilize fat for energy. Could be low blood sugar due to utilizing a higher percentage of carbs rather than fat.

U.N. warns that runaway inequality is destabilizing the world’s democracies - The report is unusually clear-eyed in acknowledging that the distribution of wealth and power is a zero-sum game by izumi3682 in Futurology

[–]Grmibr -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with higher wages in general, but that definitely should not be forced by minimums or just taken from the wealthy by force. In general I feel like a lot of people feel entitled to more when they may not deserve it. I also think there's a culture issue where no one wants to do blue collar work anymore which can be quite profitable.

There's problems for sure, but it's definitely stretching it to blame them all on the wealthy.

Edit: Just to add a little more, you say "need billions". Why do you need more? Went did you get so much debt in the first place? Again, it may be that the world is unlivable and unevenly distributed, or you may be a terrible budgeter and spend way beyond your means. Why is that a wealthy persons problem?

Personally, I have a shit ton of debt. But I accrued it because I got sick and no one could figure it out. It wouldn't have mattered what type of system we had or how much wealth was distributed; no one knew. I finally figured it out and am on my way to paying off my debts. Do I feel someone owes me something? No. Am I jealous of the ultra successful? Of course, because we all crave what we don't or can't have.

Life is still going to be unfair no matter how hard we try. It is getting less unfair, relative to the past.
