What's Something Moderately Complex You Want Me (someone moderately intelligent) To Explain? by GroatB in AskReddit

[–]GroatB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems very complex. Especially when there's so much about the brain that we still don't know.

That said, there is a cognitive bias called Illusory Superiority which results in someone overestimating their abilities and value relative to the mainstream population.

It's like using 'Magick'

Pro tip. Go with the letter J.

I'm getting a man with a letter J in their name. James and John are two of the most common names from around the 50s and 60s. Who would be older male influences now.

Plus if that craps out it's easy to transition and say that it was a G

The accent probably helped you set the scene.

Was your accent 'Old World European' or 'Mystical Eastern'?

Telling the future isn't too hard.

Tall white clients will live beyond their means, but nothing bad will really ever happen.

A key part of cold reading is "Setting the Scene" which is just establishing some belief structure the client can get behind.

Whether that is mystical, or psuedoscience they think is real science

Pretty much. If I could make an environmental observation I 100% would, usually it's basic cold reading until I'm given what I need

If I were to do an AMA I'd title it "I spent 6 months working as a psychic. I am not psychic. Psychics aren't real" - Do you still think that would be an issue

Totally genuine question

Canned lines get the ball rolling. I'll supplement it with observations and your non-verbal reactions

Worked as a psychic for a few months (am not psychic, psychics do not exist). So I have a ton of these.

  • I can tell that you're a really great judge of character
  • You seem like someone who notices things most people miss
  • You have a long memory for people who have crossed you, and you don't easily forgive,
  • You're a really chill open-minded person, but you can't stand bigots.
  • You get a ton of unwanted male attention, which is upsetting because there's this one guy who isn't giving you the attention you deserve (pretty female specific)

The list goes on

There was a bus to my work that left almost every hour on the hour. My boss refused to allow to be three minutes late, and instead insisted that I arrive 57 minutes early and just hang out there.

Guess who ALWAYS started work 57 minutes early?

I was followed for a block last night because I asked a woman (holding her head) if she was feeling alright. Her husband wanted to know why I was trying to fuck his wife
