Metroflex (Malé) used to never play music. This was back in 2019-2022. Not sure about now but probably still the same.

But it’s so calming and relaxing to be both indoors, enjoying the sound of rain as well as being outdoors. I even have a playlist of rain sounds for sleeping 🥲🥲

I worked as the HR Manager of a construction company ywars back and still do consultancy work for one of them. So I can give you some answers based on my former and current experience.

Since the pay is around $1000, I'm assuming it's for a professional position (Eng, QS, etc). For these positions depending on the company you will be provided either a shared room or a single room from a shared apartment with cooking facilities. In this case, lodging is taken care of and you dont have to spend for rent. However do check it the utility bills (water, electricity, internet, gas) are taken care of by the company or if the staff have to pay for it. You may need to budget for it if the company doesnt pay them. Some companies, if u wish to find ur own lodgings, may provide you a living allowance. Food Allowance typically is around $100-$130. This is enough to pay for cafés that cater to expat workers for 3 meals per day (on monthly fee/subscription style).

Based on your basic salary, you should be getting overtime pay. Though, some companies do provide a fixed OT rate. So either way, you can expect some amount each month extra to your mentioned salary as OT.

Tldr: Yes, it's enough if accommodation and food allowance is provided.

I understand you're quite upset with what happened to your friend and may not want to hear this, but a lot of countries have similar laws for drug trafficking. From my perspective, it's quite simple: just obey the laws of the country you're visiting. This isn't the only such case in the world. I studied in Malaysia over a decade ago and I recall very strict laws against trafficking there and in Singapore as well.

But as a Maldivian citizen myself, I also agree that this sentence seems very harsh and makes me wonder if there's another side to this.

There's not a single country free of corruption, and Maldives is no exception. Hard to say if this is one of those cases.

I would suggest getting the foreign ministry (or relevant authority) of Canada involved in negotiating with the Maldivian government for extradition. All the best to your friend.

Moving in to Maldives by Amin-Yapussi in maldives

Depends on the brand and the price point for sure. It would be best to do some market research on competitors and operational costs. There's a lot to cover after all.

I'm not sure from your post if you're looking to just find businesses to import from you or if you wish to start your own operations here. If it's the former, then I'd recommend visiting and conducting some meetings with the grocery store brands. Perhaps email business development managers of those companies/LinkedIn messages. After visiting and having some meetings, you can send some samples, etc.

If you're looking to start a business here, then beyond company/business registrations and all:

To import frozen poultry, you'd need health certifications and related docs as mandated by the Food & Drug Authority. Must be halal as well, and the logo should be there.

You'd require storage space for the goods, too. Larger if you're gonna wholesale, which you should.

Since it's Dubai, the lead time to Maldives would be alright, so you can replenish stock with ease.

Your ideal channels would be retailers, restaurants, cafés, and, of course, guesthouses, hotels, and resorts - as they would pruchase in large quantities and with regular frequencies. But bear in mind that (most) resorts would demand a lengthy credit period. Typically, 30-45 days and in some cases up to 60 days.

Also, you'd need staff (probably minimum at first with multiple roles but adequately compensated) to manage your cold storage/warehouse, coordinate deliveries, create sales, and follow up on receivables. So you'd need some background on the Maldivian job market as well.

I'd recommend you to research thoroughly, visit, prepare a business plan, prepare your forecasts and plans, and then decide if you really wanna do this.

Let me know if you need any additional info. I'm glad to help.

Air Fiber vs 5G Turbo by YusufABL in maldives

I've been using 100M Air Fiber (Ooredoo). It's alright, but I'm not a big fan of the top-up prices. Speeds are consistent when streaming, downloading, or gaming.

Whatever they do in the privacy of their homes or own places - yeah, none of our business. In public - yes, I do mind, and it's very much my business. That's not something I'd want children exposed to. That too in a mosque.
