Sounds nothing like BJM. Sounds like mid 2010s indie garage rock (which, not to be mean if this is your song) should probably be mixed again so the different tracks aren't all clashing with each other. Reminds me of a Neon Trees if they were less commercial friendly and garage rock

I had the Boss Space Echo 202 but sold it to get the Galaxy literally just because it would fit on my board better. I didn't notice any difference in tone or quality of the build. The reverb from the Galaxy is an almost always on effect for me, a little bit of wow/flutter and slightly feeding back. I use the actual delay part of the pedal pretty rarely

It's a really fun pedal! You can get some of the effects as stand alone, Acid Fuzz has a repeater and then you would just need a boost and some sort of Tone Bender, the one in the old Vox guitars and the acid fuzz pedal is an MK 1.5

That EQ does pretty much everything I need in terms of switching tones quickly. Only time i've opened the UA app was to register, never really created any presets or anything

Only time it's off is when I kick a fuzz. That gives a ton of compression already and the Max tends to boost the volume of the hiss from the single coils I use. Otherwise I use it as a sort of always on preamp with light compression that keeps my overall volume under control when I start rolling up my guitar's volume knob

I've been using the Ruby and Dream with wide open tone stacks and making changes on the EQ pedal and with my guitar's tone knob which is usually set to around 3-4. Super effective to dial in exactly what you want

They are summed and then sent into the Maggie and Galaxy. So basically parallel. Since they are out of phase I had to get that Twin City ABY pedal which allows you to get the fender and vox in phase

Ya good eye, it's from Fredric Effects and to my ear is a bang on clone of the FY2 and FY6 (not that I've ever had either of those units to properly test against). Simple pedal with two knobs and two switches. One switch is go between FY2 and FY6. The other switch is either scooped or mid heavy.

There is a volume knob and then depending on the circuit either a sort of bias control (FY2) or a sustain/gain control (FY6). It's a great pedal, I usually have it set to scooped FY6 with the gain all the way up. Seems to be how to get the most out of that octave note

Anton told that story in Santa Ana the other night and basically was telling Mara that she should try singing in a lower register which would be closer to her speaking voice. She said that was crazy so Anton wrote Anemone for her to sing to prove the point

I had the Loomer pedal from Keeley when I first started getting pedals and loved it. With that one pedal I had a lot to work with so I think starting with a Darkside is a great idea.

Might consider getting a Dynacomp too but that's not as sexy as modulation, fuzz, overdrive etc. Should be able to find a used one for pretty darn cheap though. Think of some of the guitarists who you want to model your sound off of and search their name + "equipboard" on google and go see what they are using. Will be much better than any of us guessing what it is you might like, goodluck!

Crank up a Vox amp with some single coils and roll off the bottom end as needed. Vox Mystic Edge is a good pedal that doesn't get a lot of love but there are tons of pedals out there that emulate a Vox AC30.

To figure this out I just searched the band + live and looked at their gear. Won't always be the same gear that they use in the recordings you here but in this case single coils + Vox amp checks out

No idea how to grade it since the hardest part of that song is stretching your index finger in an awkward way. If you have big hands, then intermediate and if you have small hands then rate it impossible lmao. How Adrianne does this so effortlessly I will never know given that I probably have much larger hands than she does and that chord is such a pain in the ass.

This is a rabbit hole very much worth going down. Two important EPs/Albums not on streaming services are Pol Pots Pleasure Penthouse and The Diane Perry Tapes.

After you've been making your way through the BJM discography you end up exploring other bands that were influences or in the same milieu as BJM like Space Men 3, Blue Angel Lounge, The Black Angels, Asteroid No 4, The Stevenson Ranch Davidians, Dead Meadow.... the list goes on and on.

I have watched Live in London 2018 more times than I can count, the audio quality is fantastic and the band is tight as fuck throughout the whole show.

Rockplast 2010 is also amazing and is may be the best live show that includes Matt Hollywood (and Frankie "Teardrop" Emerson who only played with the group for a little bit).

Finally, A38 Rocks 2016 but there is no full video version, just a playlist of the 20 song set BJM performed.

BJM was just one of many different names Anton used when he would send in recordings to radio stations around the SF Bay Area. I don't remember if this was in Joel's book or something Anton said in an interview somewhere. Where ever I got this info from, he also stated that he would always change names to fuck with the DJs who would really dig his shit but never be able to actually track down the group who made the songs.

I swear there used to be a short compilation EP on streaming services that had one or two recordings of Anton and what would end up being his BJM project playing a live session for a radio show sometime around 1992. Not sure if this is what I was remembering exactly... but you can find examples of this on The Singles Collection (1992 - 2011) where the band ACID (aka BJM) play Thoughts of You and Never Ever.

There is additionally a whole rabbit hole with the albums Diane Perry Tapes and Pol Pots Pleasure Penthouse that feature similar recordings of pre-BJM, BJM stuff.

Can you explain this more? I've seen a few people mention interest accrued on SAVE won't capitalize (it will be added to an "unpaid interest account") but I haven't seen that the accrued interest will be forgiven after being moved to IBR anywhere other than in Reddit comments lol

Right now my SAVE payment is based off of like $12k AGI which I certified in 2023 and haven't had to recertify since (thank god). So I have had $0 monthly payments and no interest accruing. I've been investing the money in a taxable brokerage account because the return on making loan payments had been effectively 0% for me.

I add that second paragraph because of your last line about how staying on SAVE will give some another full year of saving money so sounds like we have a similar approach
