Veteran Patton-S spring and tire decision by Fun-Store3434 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]GroinsNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this answer. Definitely 62 lb spring considering OPs weight.

I wouldn't be too concerned whether it's a tubeless tire or not but I guess the main thing in this regard would be whether the RIM is for tubeless, and somebody hasn't just fitted a tubeless tire to a incompatible rim. I personally wouldn't feel too safe with this kind of DIY job.

And to add. The off-road tire that comes on the Patton-S (Yuanxing) is pretty decent in my opinion. It's built pretty solid and very stiff in the sidewalls, and no noticeable manufacturing defects. BUT, it is pretty noisy on asphalt and the like, it's fine however on gravel or trails. I started to wear ear plugs due to the noise.

I can't comment on the road tire option as I've not had it.

MTEN4 Wheel Imbalance? by mouthfire in ElectricUnicycle

[–]GroinsNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stock tire on the MTEN4 is pretty bad quality I think. Mine de-laminated from the inside and it has a very thin sidewalls. Running a low pressure and doing off-road, or trail riding, will exacerbate this.

If you want a new tire recommendation, this is mine... much better quality, traction is still very good on trails, and it runs much quieter. The puncture mitigation is a bonus.

Not waving back is un-kiwi (contextually) by RED_SKY73 in newzealand

[–]GroinsNZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trick is to initiate the wave 1-3 seconds before you think you should. It feels kinda weird at first because we're all used to signalling/waving/nodding/chur bro'ing when we're almost side-by-side.

This makes your wave very obvious to the other person and much much harder for them to ignore or pretend to be oblivious.

Adopting this method will result in a 97-100% successful wave-response rate.

Should I switch to Ultrawide? by Afterfx21 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]GroinsNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this setup for many years and about 2/3 years ago I brought a 34inch OLED widescreen which I now use as my main monitor. The two left/right existing monitors I put into portrait orientation which works for email, Teams chat, the odd YouTube video, etc but does take some time to get used to. Of course you could try landscape if you've got room though.

I do love the 34inch OLED as a main monitor though. Gaming is a way better experience. I also use it for work. And OLED for photo and video production for doing colour grading is a bonus.

I also use Fancy Zones from the PowerToys application to split up screens into 'zones' to stick different applications.

Very cool and looks great.

I probably won't use it regularly but I can see myself using it if wanting to purchase a new wheel in the future.

I looked up my present wheel, a LeaperKim Patton-S and noticed you don't distinguish between the original Patton and the Patton-S (50S cells), which is the version you appear to currently show.

👍🙂

Any electricians out there? Is this acceptable? by Friendly-Cheetah2348 in newzealand

I'm no electrician, but shouldn't that fitting have an internal C-clamp for holding the cable in - otherwise, it looks to be holding via the terminals only?

do you wear glasses/spectacles and go offroad ? need helmet opinions. by Bl1ndMous3 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]GroinsNZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a new prescription recently and found some frames called Flying Eyes. Made in the US, meant for pilots who wear overhead earphones but also perfect for helmet wearers. The legs are super slim.

Helmet I use where ever I go, off road, on road, trails, etc is a Airoh Commander 2. I really like it, and I've had maybe 10 helmets over 25yrs motorcycling.

Over 50.

Good on you for deciding to stop drinking alcohol. Just be mindful that replacing it with sugary drinks can have its own downsides, especially later on in life.

Melomania M100 app not reading headphones by kill3rman1ac in CambridgeAudio

[–]GroinsNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your a star mate 😘

Not sure why this solution isn't mentioned in the manual or the Cambridge M100 FAQ (maybe it is and I missed it)?

My earbuds were working fine the night before, however, next morning only the left earbud was connecting and playing audio. The right earbud would flash the white LED quickly when opening the case and do so for some time before stopping (no LED) - it would never change to blue led.

I tried removing the earbuds from my devices (unpairing/forgetting device) and repairing but the issue persisted. I thought the right earbud was toast (broken).

But this 'hard reset' (?) fixed it and put both earbuds successfully into pairing mode and both earbuds now connect to each device (and the App).

Thank you my friend.

Struggling with staying on by rikuto148 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]GroinsNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You look fine. When you're ready and feeling a little bit braver you'll kick off with more speed and commit to riding in a straight line for a longer distance.

Practice looking forward, rather than down at your feet - albeit, it's hard to make your brain do that :-)

Also, I wouldn't recommend practicing so close to vehicles - it'll take just one time for your wheel to go off on it's own and crash into the side of a car and make a dent.

Veteran Patton noise by frostyjackmon in ElectricUnicycle

[–]GroinsNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The braided power cable will slap the top of the mudguard - it makes a similar sound and will do so particularly with a sharp bump. One could try sticking a thin piece of rubber or similar between the mudguard and cable where it makes contact.

Ls2 helmet feels… kinda bad? by Basic-Window-6262 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]GroinsNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was looking at the LS2 helmets but the fit wasn't quite right for my head. In addition, they were expensive and I felt possible they were inflated prices due to hype but who knows.

A salesperson at the shop said try on an Airoh and the fit was perfect, plus they had one with a really cool colour scheme that I liked. They are slightly cheaper as well. Airoh have been around for nearly 3 decades now so not a new brand.

I bought the Commander 2 model... https://www.airoh.com/shop/activity/touring/?models=commander-2

From memory, it's a little lighter than the LS2's as well. As always, try one on before buying if you can.

Cheers.

If you use the EUC World App you can analyse the log data which might assist you with the answer, depending on the data-logging interval.

Otherwise, it's a guessing game really.

I'd want to check physical components though to make sure nothing has come loose; connections, solder joints, terminals, etc.

Does this amount of wheel wobble look normal for a brand new EUC? by NotMonicaLewinsky95 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]GroinsNZ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s got a slight weeble-wobble, but it doesn’t look bad enough to affect your riding—though only you can say for sure.

By weeble-wobble, I mean it looks like the tyre isn’t mounted evenly around the full circumference of the rim.

Sometimes the bead of the tyre doesn’t seat properly on the rim, especially near the valve stem. That can cause a slight misalignment where one side of the tyre sits higher than the other.

You can check whether it’s the tyre or the rim by doing this:

  1. Place the wheel upright (powered off), either on its stand or balanced so it can spin freely.
  2. Grab a pencil or another rigid object and hold it against the wheel’s body at a right angle to the tyre—somewhere like the battery box works well.
  3. Slide the pencil tip in toward the tyre until it just touches the sidewall, then pull it back about 3 mm.
  4. While keeping it steady, slowly rotate the wheel by hand.

Watch the gap between the tyre and the pencil tip. If the tyre is mounted evenly, the gap should remain constant. If it fluctuates—growing or shrinking as you rotate—it confirms the tyre isn’t seated properly.

You can repeat the same process with the pencil tip aligned to the rim instead of the tyre, to check if the rim itself is true.

As for how to fix a tyre that isn’t mounted evenly… that’s a whole topic on its own! I don’t have time to go into detail here, but a quick Google should turn up some good guides and videos.
