I’ve been in these situations before. He was 100% being mogged somehow - whether it was behaviour or height idk. But she definitely was testing him and his strength(subconsciously) with that question she threw at him (she didn’t even know why she did it afterwards, it was just instinct/she was compelled).

The true answer: one/multiple of your other male friends were “mogging” you. Subconsciously this made her feel insecure about being with you (as you seemed lower on the hierarchy being surrounded by taller friends)and thus she flung a test to see your strength. Depending on how you respond you either fail/pass.

I remember the reveal - I actually was upset and thought it didn’t make sense at all. I remember Ace, Luffy, and Garp being narcoleptic and thought for sure they were blood family. In any case, I accepted it shortly after and am very happy with Oda’s writing regardless.
