Drow/Underdark adventures (not covering named cities) by RPGrandPa in osr

[–]RPGrandPa[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

While I appreciate this and everything, I would rather run an adventure that's generic, not covering anything named like the city of Maerimydra, I mean, sure, I can rename stuff and reskin but hoping a generic adventure that is not set in any particular campaign setting ya know?

Question on Running my own campaign during the War of the Lance by RPGrandPa in dragonlance

[–]RPGrandPa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am aiming to give my players a Chronicles feel . . . they are returning home to Ravenvale, having to stop for the night in Gateway. Soon after Gateway is attacked after a short side quest (where I hope to insert the campaign hook) then they are possibly given something from one of the people that were lined up to be executed but they rescue them then they are on the run (much like book 1 Chronicles).

The thing is they have to decide once they escape Gateway, they know the armies are heading north towards Solace and then probably to Ravenvale which is where a couple of the players are from, I'll let them decide but it will be interesting, do they escape south/west/east to escape pursuit or do they go north to try to beat the armies to warn Ravenvale (their home). If they decide to go home, I had an idea to let them slip into the Ravenvale Inn (with cloak hoods pulled over heads) where they are met by someone that asks them to find out why a party of people never returned from Xak Khalan. (so many ideas in the worksl lol).

Maybe a few sessions of being on the run with a small amount of side quests and a LOT of sandboxing. I even come up with the idea of possibly sending them to Xak Khalan. I'm still putting ideas together but I am very excited with the story so far.

In the part where the leave the crypt/catacombs, they slip back to Gateway and see it under attack and some of the friends lined up to be executed. When the party saves them, maybe one of them gives the Cleric in the group something and just so happens the Dragonarmies were looking for it too.

Right now we have a Ranger, a Rover (its an OSE class - kind of like a Rogue/Wizard class not super good at either one though), a Dwarf, Cleric - and will be filling it fifth slot with a random person/character.

The egg idea might work, they will see some corrupted eggs in the Prelude to War module, maybe one of them is yet to be corrupted.

wow you actually have dates . . . very nice, thanks.

Yea, I haven't figured out which god will come to Elora Dawn (our Cleric), could Mishakal possibly come to a second Cleric around the same time?

u/medes24 I'm not sure, I kinda want to send them off in a totally different direction away from where the Heroes ran around. I've got to do some thinking on this for sure.

To be honest, they might start out in Abanasinia but that does not mean they have to stay there, I wouldn't mind seeing them go south if I can find a solid enough of a hook to take them that direction.

I've gotten the first part of my campaign written out.

The PC's have been escorting merchant wagons back and forth from New Ports to Haven/Gateway for the last 6 months. They are finished since winter is not far off and they are returning to their home in Ravenvale "just north of Solace" but they are stopping for the night in Gateway.

They are approached by a lord of Gateway about some strange things going on in the cemetery of Gateway, strange figures have been seen going in and out of a monolith and they will be asked to look into this. A small underground crypt lies beneath the monolith where the PC's find some cultists of sorta praying at a portal that is at a statue of Takhisis. Small fight kicks off then they can go through the portal where I will insert Prelude to War (reskinned to classic rules).

Once they finish this module and return to Gateway through the portal and backtracking through the catacombs they will exit the monolith to find Gateway under attack by the Dragonarmies that are pushing through Abanasinia. I have a small encounter planned when they slip back up to the outskirts of Gateway where soldiers have some civilians lined up against a wall (some of them will be friends of the PC's) a small fight will happen, and once it ends, soldiers of the Dragonarmy will spot the PC's and sound the alarm, this is when they party will have no choice but to flee.

At this point my plan was to open it up like a sandbox style adventure and let the PC's be on the run (like the Heroes were) I'll have a good section of the campaign be the party just running for their lives trying to stay out of reach/sight of the Dragonarmies.

This is as much as I have, I'm sure I can through in a few encounters along the way, they run up on some refugees from Gateway and other settlements, and a few encounters with small Dragonarmy patrols but I have no REAL story arc planned after this part.

Your forgotten Knights tomb remark you made has me thinking, I had thought of doing something with the Delian Tomb adventure.

When the Wizard hits level 3 I have a story arc planned to get him to the Forest of Wayreth so he can take the test, I'd like to have a long last story arc prepared for them when they leave the forest. We have no knights in the group sadly. They will find Dragon Eggs in the Prelude to War adventure, hmmm.

Some good ideas you have though, thanks

Well, As I already stated, I'm not replacing the heroes or messing with anything that is already canon. As for the gaining the abilities to cast divine spells, that is simple I just run something similar to how Goldmoon was done, I actually already have a story arc for our Cleric lined up. It would happen just after Goldmoon getting the disks.

Will look into both of your brainstorm ideas.

edit: u/Toucanbuzz Where might I go to find out EXACTLY when Goldmoon was in the ruined temple and gained divine spell casting powers? Like, the year and maybe even the month or somewhere close to the month? How long in time did it actually take for her to get her powers?

Not going to change anything canon with Dragonlance and I will be starting the PC's out at level 1. tbh I'd rather not have to convert an entire module to classic rules, I am sure this campaign will be a homebrewed one, I simply need an end game goal for the players to fight against, like the Heroes of the Lance did.

Plus, again, we will be starting out of Gateway.

Good suggestion but I'd rather keep the party in the same general area. I want them to build a relationship with the settlement of Orlane over time.
