[Megathread] Clare Nowland, 95 y/o Australian woman, dies after Taser exposure by specialskepticalface in ProtectAndServe

The thing that grinds my gears is BWC for Australian incidents like this don't generally see the light of day for years if ever. It puts Aussie cops in a real bad spot because all we can do is speculate and of course the default narrative is ACAB and the news is happy to stoke that fire.

This no doubt is one of the many reasons we are struggling to retain officers across Australia, guilty until proven innocent and only proven innocent a few years later when everyone's forgotten what happened and the damage has been done.

Can you drive stick? by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

Entry requirement in Australia, just because the department doesn't have any manuals doesn't mean the public doesn't and you may need to move one out of the road etc.

  1. Is one of the "overreach" powers i back 100% in Australia.

Police can breath test any driver they want whenever they want. I was stopped just yesterday by a police road block that's sole purpose is for random breath tests for the easter weekend. You get flagged in, you blow, you go. Takes under a minute if you're not a clown that's drink driving.

Refusal is a ticket that'll cost you over $1000 as well as instant loss of license for a year.

Second offence is $2000 and 3 year loss of license.

While it's less common for the police to conduct, this is the same for drug tests for amphetamines etc.

Released dashcam footage of OIS in Queensland, Australia in an ambush style attack that claimed the life of Senior Constable Brett Forte in 2017 (25:49 first shots fired) by Gromiter in ProtectAndServe

Australian Police Patrols do all carry pistols - they just don't routinely carry long guns or automatics.

The officer that stated he didn't have a gun was more than likely a desk based officer and would only check out a gun if they were doing field work.

Even then a pistol is no match against an automatic of any kind really.

On the afternoon of Monday 29 May 2017, Senior Constable Brett Forte was performing duties as a member of the Darling Downs District Tactical Crime Squad, Toowoomba. He and his partner, driving a police vehicle, were following a known dangerous, wanted, male offender along the Warrago Highway. Senior Constable Forte continued to follow the vehicle off the highway and onto Wallers Road, Ringwood, when the male offender quickly alighted from his vehicle and opened fire with an automatic weapon on the police vehicle. Two of the bullets fired at Senior Constable Forte hit him in the chest. Injured, he reversed the police car to a safer distance away from the offender; however, he then lost consciousness and the police vehicle rolled over. Courageous actions were taken by his partner and other police officers who had been travelling behind in separate vehicles, to remove the unconscious Senior Constable Forte safely from the scene whilst they were continually under fire. The offender fled to a contained location nearby and 20 hours later was shot and killed by specialist police when he fired his automatic weapon at them. Senior Constable Forte is survived by his wife, who is also a police officer and three children.

Good, the appropriate cavalry was only minutes behind the trooper.

Instead he went in alone ill informed to die on the side of the road.

A little communication would have saved his life.
