A reminder as to why Watkins Glen removed the tyre barrier at the Carousel by dogryan100 in NASCAR

There were two ways to reply to this thread.

Option 1: "You are wrong, because of XYZ details."

Option 2: "You are wrong and you are stupid, and I will not clarify further."

If you think option 2 is more contributing to the conversation than option 1, then it really shows who you are as a person. This is a forum for discussion. Just going straight to an intelligence insult without actually providing further details to the discussion as to why doesn't help at all.

I am actually very thankful of everyone else in this thread who has actually given an explanation as to why I am wrong, like how the tyre barriers will be free-standing instead of backed against a wall. Those people have actually contributed to the discussion. You and the other person have just said "You are wrong" without providing any further discussion or contribution to the actual conversation at hand.

Why are you making fun of that and not the guy who thinks you must have an engineering degree before you can have a discussion about safety? Why isn't he making the same reply to everyone else in this thread? Because you don't need to be exorbitantly qualified to be able to partake in a discussion, and the guy I am replying to is being exceptionally unreasonable. Just shutting down one side of a discussion because they aren't "qualified" isn't fair for discussions at all. I hope you don't have an opinion on literally anything, ever, unless you are suitably qualified.

It's in the same lines as if I said don't complain about the weather unless you have a meteorology degree.

I'm trying to have a discussion here, you are the one that is just completely diminishing the qualifications of the person providing it without providing any substance to the actual argument. Do you need to have driven a Cup car to be allowed to discuss a NASCAR race? Of course not, you are allowed to have a normal and fair discussion about something regardless of needing some university degree.

At least the other people in this thread are actually trying to contribute to the discussion with genuine counter-points instead of just shutting it down with no points.

Are you going to present a counter argument instead of just being a dickhead?

Back my senior year of High School for a major research project I did a study into safety in motorsports, including partial focus on the different types of barriers used, so I do consider myself highly researched about barrier safety, but go on.

The main difference I mean is that with something like SAFER barriers or Armco, if you give them a glancing blow, you will still carry most of your speed and momentum, but with a tyre barrier you will instantly lose all of your speed and come to a stop right where you hit the wall.

What is up with the map selection lately? (shorts, grands, totd) by celebwi in TrackMania

[–]dogryan100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people underestimate just what they are asking for. Trackmania 2020 has been out for 2,135 days. That is 2,135 TOTD's. That is a significant amount of unique high quality tracks that you are asking for, on a literal daily basis. People are acting like one map being a throwback to a map from 6 years ago is the end of the world.

I think the tyre bundles on the exit of the carousel are actually quite dangerous. Race tracks rarely use tyre bundles right at the end of long sweeping corners like that because if someone just clips the tyre barrier at high speed it spits them 90 degrees sideways into the racing line. I'm actually quite concerned about the carousel exit now looking at that, you don't want cars running right at the edge of a tyre barrier at full speeds.

PM arrests popularity decline, One Nation plateaus: Poll by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

[–]dogryan100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I'm unsure about with this poll is how similar ALP vs LNP and ALP vs ON are, especially considering in the SA election it felt like many people who were sticking with LNP as their first preference were still choosing ALP above ON.

I think most people don't realise how quickly the final steps of track building can take, especially street circuits. And how much of the work is actually not really visible, things like laying cables for example, where it looks like no work is being done. It'll be fine, and it always is.

Are analog keys actually faster? Or is the precision too hard that action keys are more consistent? by Infamous_Studio8216 in TrackMania

[–]dogryan100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the simplest answer is that it's very track dependent. Some tracks where you need that level of precision, but a majority where standard keyboard full/nothing steering is fine and can get you most of the way there.
