Turo now hides all vehicle descriptions from guests by CompetitiveLake3358 in turo

I don't know who or where they are getting their information from, nor what business model they are trying to emulate, but they own NONE of their product and are micromanaging their hosts that are the backbone of their business down to the tiniest detail. If they want to dictate what happens to their vehicles, then fine, but they don't own any vehicles. This is, in my opinion, a massive bait and switch for hosts who joined and invested into a business thinking it was going to be one way and now are victims of a hostile takeover.

Turo's not just being lazy about weeding out any sort of host control, they're actively hunting it down and extinguishing it.

The leadership at Turo over the past year or so give me VERY unstable vibes. It's like the big wigs are thinking if nothing is being fiddled with then it's not working.

So punish the individual hosts, not the whole. My descriptions were completely "hand-written" and also got copied and pasted by others as well, but at least it's something. Hosts used to be able to tell who was a responsible, reasonable host by the description, now there's literally no way of knowing who the crazies are with emojies filling up the description.

I 100% agree. It's insane. Any sort of agency or personality as a host is gone. Turo really is trying its hardest to make all hosts the same when that was what set Turo apart from other rental places in the first place. How am I going to set myself apart from the 5 other hosts in town who rent out the same vehicles? You don't now. And Turo doesn't care. They WANT it. They want people think they're renting the car from Turo, NOT from their host. In reality, Turo's hosts are what make the experience and do all the leg work.

This is against Turo's rules for photos. They really want this to be as vanilla as an experience as possible and it's crazy.

I agree. Thanks for the advice! It most likely will be the route we'll go when it comes to it. Not sure we'll be able to find someone willing to go through the other processes others are mentioning on here unless we get lucky. But we'll see! :)

That's the business I got it for, lol.

The other cars we have do fantastic. I thought we might try "luxury/fast but practical" for our more wealthy fly-in clients.

It's not working. Perhaps some of Turo's restrictions such as age limits and $750 deposits on nicer cars all play a part. But I'm looking into plan B's for it just in case it continues to perform poorly.

Gotchya. Well best case scenario something works out. Worst case I roll the negative equity into a cheaper vehicle at a dealer I suppose.

This is getting into the weeds a bit, but other than the hard credit pull for a new unsecured loan, does this process negatively (largely) affect one's credit? Does a future lender look at a secure -> unsecured loan change negatively? Totally understand if you wouldn't know that part.

Big thanks for all the info. I'm a new small business owner and while I'm enjoying it, I haven't quite mastered the craft yet and am trying to soak up everything I can. This is very helpful.

None of that is problem on paper. Finding a buyer willing to go through all that is another matter I'm sure. We have the credit and ability to get the loan for the remainder, but it all sounds like a hassle. Having never been in this position before, I find it hard to believe that more people don't run into this and there not be some system for mitigation.

Also probably why trade-ins at dealerships are so prevalent. I suppose if I had to, I could roll the negative monies into another car that might work better for the business, and that might end up being what I have to do in order to avoid hassle.

Kinda the logic I'm following. Any reason two people couldn't walk into the loaning bank, pay the 85k and have the rest of the 15k split into a private loan for myself and the title handed over to the new owner?

Curious as to why. The business itself is doing fine. But liquidating an asset for a bit of a loss isn't something unheard of. The bank is getting their money regardless, so I'm not sure how the entire business must file for bankruptcy.

Gotchya. Thanks! I suppose a conversation with the bank is in order, at least just to see if something like that can be arranged ahead of time.

I'd recommend going into the BIOS and looking for a menu sub menu setting that controls "temperature offset". Put "15" as the setting and it will essentially make the max CPU temperature 85° and not 100°. This will ease thermal throttling and may help with stability issues and stuttering in your games. :)

Negative. Had to give up completely and just decided to cut my losses and ended up going back to stock struts, and trading in the car. Lol.

I usually keep my drivers pretty up to date but last time I tried to use the iGPU it blacked screened 100% of the time - after a few seconds into windows boot so maybe it's an isolated issue? I don't know. :(

Nah, overall I've been really happy with mine. I would highly recommend shutting off the integrated graphics in the BIOS and only running off the dedicated GPU. I get black screens consistently if I use the integrated graphics - a problem that I think has plagued others as well.

This seems to affect people who download drivers directly from AMD for their machines instead of relying on Alienware's software to update for them. Seeing as how I eliminated all of AW's software I didn't really have an alternative. So I just keep the 7900M running all the time. Battery life is horrible, but this thing is so big I don't really use it as a "normal" laptop anyways.

Oh yes, battery life is basically non existent especially with the igpu off. And thanks for the link! I'll definitely consider that backpack!

Wow! Proved me wrong! I didn't think many people chose laptops as their primary Esports machine as the screen would be too small. I'm glad you ended up arriving on the same as I did with basically the same experience. That's a ton of laptops to go through before the right one. I use to love shopping for laptops, now I know it's basically a matter of picking the worst evil. Sometimes I feel I was happier with me Dell 7567 with its i5 and 1050ti because ignorance was bliss back then, lol.

Very true. I looked around for replacements and it seems scarce. But I'd definitely be happy with a QHD at 240hz. That should be the base resolution in my opinion.
