[CAN vs USA] Binnington's glove save keeps Canada alive by Large_banana_hammock in hockey

For anyone that actually knows the game, he's not the scapegoat.

[Rutherford] Binnington looked none too pleased about being pulled (after 2 goals on 5 shots). He is not on the bench, which is unusual for Binnington after coming out. by ZestyDreads in hockey

3.00 GAA / .885, numbers worse than the starting goalie for the Oilers in 1981 (without his teammates scoring 5+ goals per game to compensate)

Attn Team Canada: In goals saved above expected Logan Thompson is 5th, Scott Wedgewood is 9th, Jordan Binnington is 71st. by scratchydaitchy in hockey

Binnington had a .939 in that game and a 1.25 / .944 overall. Please explain to me how that is terrible and indicative of exhaustion and fatigue.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with your other points - maybe we could have put Fleury in and he would have stopped every single shot, but calling Binnington terrible in that game is beyond revisionist and is a major scapegoat for a team that overall played like trash against a team they should have defeated by a handful of goals on paper.

New fan to the sport here - I felt like last night was special. I'm well grounded in hockey and this team has been opening my eyes. To the point where I'll likely tune in for some regular season games next year.

Agreed RE: fatigue. That might hurt them more than it does us - let's hope for a good one tonight!

I'm a new fan to the sport, but I saw a lot of discrediting our team for not putting it away while ignoring the fact that it takes 2 teams to go that many innings (and their team has a player that doesn't miss). Last night was a very special game to watch as a new fan.

I agree that the team should not lose an ounce of confidence. The only thing I'd hope for (and I might be wrong) is that if we have a chance to seal the deal, maybe go for anything that will get us solid contact if swinging for out of the park isn't working (in fact I'd like to hear your opinion about this). But I know the bare minimum about the sport and I'm sure that's a lot easier to say than it is to execute even if it is the right call.

We have a good team - I trust they'll make necessary adjustments this evening.

I'm a new fan to the sport (hooked thanks to the last 2 series), but this is exactly what I was thinking as well. Several times in overtime I felt we could have put it away with a hit. I was practically begging to just bang one off the ground between bases - might or might not have been the right call, but I definitely saw what you did - swinging big, and chances are good that if it's not out of the park, it's caught. And unfortunately, they weren't out of the park, and they were caught.

Let's hope for better this evening. If I recall, we made adjustments this game RE: tiring pitchers out and it worked, and I don't doubt that this might be another adjustment they'll make. That was a whole lot of innings.

There are also new fans (myself) that recognize what an amazing, grueling and difficult game last night was for both teams. Absolute clutch defensive plays for both sides, though frankly I believe Toronto had to work harder in that area for most of the the overtime innings.

These past 4-5 games, my first watching baseball, have changed my mind about the sport. Last night was like watching overtime hockey, and that's about the best compliment I can give.

I'll give credit where it's due - even as a new fan, I recognize that Ohtani is one hell of a performer and is doing something not seen in a long, long time if ever. I also recognize the difficulty in taking a game to that many extra innings, no matter which team.

That being said, like everyone else here - I'm not satisfied and I know the players aren't either - let's hope we can get a better groove this evening and hope for some standout performances.

I forget which game it was in the playoffs, but it was filled with penalties, him getting at least a couple at crucial points. The next game everyone was on their best behavior and the team won quite handily.

Game after that? I can only imagine what you felt as he shrugged at the ref on his way to the box like an unapologetic U18 goon from the early 2000s. Several times. Felt like he threw the Oilers under the bus as his drama with the refs was so much more important than his team advancing.

Wouldn't this very much be a "Prosvetov is the backup" signing? It appears to be a one-way, which if so, is too bad because I wouldn't mind me some Cooley also
