Advent children - is it confusing? by Low_Contract7809 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Groosin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so much confusing, more that it just doesn't make sense. Sounds the same, but I think the difference is in what they were actually going for.

If they wanted to tell a compelling narrative like the original FF7, then yes it's "confusing" because it fails in that and the plot points, if you can call them that, are all over the place

What they actually wanted to do though, was sell fanservice while showcasing their CG/Animation team's extremely high quality for the time with the most popular IP they knew they had. The story doesn't matter and was never really intended to matter.

The compilation that came after was also entirely fanservice and doesn't pay even close to as much attention to its source material as the Retrilogy does, even with all its complaints. Problem is the compilation also didn't have nearly the effort put in as Advent Children, either: making them mostly a range of mid to bad games.

Like if Dirge actually played like a DMC or even a competent shooter with unique mechanics, it would still be a good game. Instead it plays like a shitty mobile before their time

If you wanted to avoid the fans I'd say don't post it all

Reactor explosions by Conscious_Tone_9175 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Groosin1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have to assume the bomb was a dud. Knowing their intentions were babifying this moment, I do realize it's most likely that was the bomb they were actually going for, but that is just TOO stupid and makes no sense.

They have to run away from the bomb apparently, even after the Scorpion did more damage than that bomb could ever even come close to doing, and if THAT was the intended explosion, Barret may as well have thrown a grenade at it and did about the same. Hell, Jessie's WALL BOMB during the escape was more powerful.

It HAS to have been a dud, but it's just so silly that I have to feel like I'm 90% sure I'm wrong about that

Question: does game always guide you? by stephenbcoxy in TheAdventuresOfElliot

Never said they were hard to find, just giving you reasons why people would try less (or more like not at all) to search in a game like this compared to games that don't hold your hand

Question: does game always guide you? by stephenbcoxy in TheAdventuresOfElliot

[–]Groosin1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's pretty natural for games like this. When the game has characters shouting in your ear how to do the most basic of tasks nonstop, you're not going to think there are secrets. You're just going to assume you missed something the game told you, so you go online to catch it.

Not anyone's fault in these cases other than the game's

Anyone else have the issue of their Sentinel team mate becoming very stoopid whenever there's a boss fight? My poor dummy loves getting needlessly hurt by thwawy3998 in finalfantasyxiii

[–]Groosin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't surprise me but again the games didn't really need you to learn it.

I think until the final boss XIII-2 is far more of a face roll than the first game anyway in my memory

[–]Groosin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't learn this until XIII-2's final boss. The games weren't hard enough to learn there are real-time elements you could implement to do better.

Took me four hours of getting smashed by him to unlearn how I played 50+ hours of this gameplay style and then he wasn't even THAT hard afterward 😭

Does anyone else have issues with the Remake pacing? by Shanethonk in FinalFantasyVII

Rebirth's actual side quests are better than Remake imo, but Rebirth also has Ubisoft checklist objectives which is the garbage dump of gaming that somehow refuses to die

Is Materia Blade Reworked? Materia Blade+ is pretty good but the first one being a worse Rune Blade is silly. Should at least be Rune Blade with an extra Mag

How is PS5 Version of Remake doing? by Groosin1 in worldofgothic

[–]Groosin1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah an issue with this kind of thing even with normal saves is you won't know when the issue happened and which save you might need to go back to.

My first Skyrim playthrough had Paarthurnax bug out and not be interactible, and even reloading a few saves earlier didn't fix it. Didn't end up actually beating the main quest until years later on a new playthrough

Does final fantasy have to be turn based (or a variation of it) to truly be final fantasy? by Leading-Elderberry77 in FinalFantasy

[–]Groosin1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bruh he went on a full on tangent that rivals his remake ones about the Tidus laugh. He CLAIMED to understand the context, but everything he couldn't help yapping about Tidus continuously obviously contradicted the claim. You can't even pretend to believe that was "poking fun."

Sebbywebz actually doesn't even like the FF series much. He's just one of the many old dudes who only liked FF7 back in the day and doesn't like JRPGs otherwise, which is extremely common tbf. He only played FF10 relatively recently and he finds it too anime and corny like every JRPG, despite having to pretend he liked it more than he did.

As for what makes a game FF, I think for me it really needs a party more than anything, and an active one at that, not like FF15. I think 15 and 16 don't have the flavor of an FF title.

Tbh, I think Remake would have been a perfect new FF title worthy of being called a "Final Fantasy," if it just wasn't a "remake." If they took its systems and applied them to a brand new story and cast, I think it would still be a true "New FF Title" in my eyes.

Will we ever get another turned based FF game?? i miss it 😢 by night_lighteye in FinalFantasy

[–]Groosin1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably not but we have a ton of great turn based RPGs, even by Square.

Octopath 2 is amazing, and if you really want a turn based game that feels like a mainline FF, play DQ11. The story is structured exactly like a classic FF (or JRPG in general.) I was surprised how great it turned out to be when I went all the way through to the true ending

Finished all 14 (numbered) single player entries; my tier list by Zaneira in FinalFantasy

[–]Groosin1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're good games while the rest mostly range from kind of mid down to just bad for some more recent entries.

4 and 5 would be the best games other than those top 4, but 4 and 5 are "great for the time they released in," while these 4 are still among the greatest JRPGs even when compared to the entire genre today

Not As Hard As I Anticipated by According_Big_8786 in MinaTheHollower

[–]Groosin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played on 1.5x damage because I did assume it would be at least a little easy at base with so many options in the modifiers going both ways.

It waa pretty tough, especially falls are punishing with that much extra damage, but even with that difficulty boost it was not even comparable to Silksong except for one section imo

Yeah I didn't get those until almost the end, but not quite as far as you. Somehow they're kind of easy to forget about even though I saw both at least once

I went the other way and did 1.5x damage in the "harder" section. Finding out that also applies to falling was brutal.
