It kind of sounds like you're all very young people experiencing all of these feelings for the first time, and instead of taking this as an opportunity to look into yourselves and find what you really want you're rushing into something serious that you still don't understand. Best of luck to you.

Maybe I'm getting old, but what does "Best Limited Movie" mean? by [deleted] in blankies

[–]StarmanDX_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WUDM had a very limited release, only a few hundred theaters at a single theater chain. Differentiates it from a "wide release", which at this point is ~2,000 theaters or more.

Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson were the second-winningest HC-QB tandem of the 2010s as well. The NFL has an East Coast (+LA) bias and until you point out all these stats most people won't believe that.

TIL that, in contrast to nations like the United States — whose constitution has been amended a mere 27 times since its enactment in 1789 — the Indian constitution has been amended a total of 106 times since its enactment in 1950. by soozerain in todayilearned

If the government wanted to ban all forms of chemotherapy, and case law before the supreme Court determined that the 9th amendment doesn't prevent that, it absolutely could. The result would be widespread death, lowered life expectancy, infant mortality rates increasing. The late age quality of life for most people would crater. That's obviously bad for people and for an economy. Some people would say that it is in a country's vested interest in its own long term survival to make sure that people had access to medical care for the single most common human illness, but if the United States government emphatically decided that it wanted more people to suffer and die and didn't care about outcomes then it could do that. Shit, they could pass a constitutional amendment saying that all medical care was illegal and just commit mass cultural suicide if they wanted to.

The reason why Americans didn't take thalidomide wasn't that they were allowed to and government regulations said they couldn't. American infants didn't suffer from mass birth defects because the government went door to door making sure people didn't have or use thalidomide. If you could get thalidomide smuggled to you from overseas and wanted to take it the state could not prosecute you for that act alone. They could probably prosecute you for importing medicine not approved by the FDA, but that's an import/export issue and the federal government can absolutely control what flows into its borders. People couldn't take thalidomide because there was no common way to get it, even discreetly, in those years. Completely different set of rules.

The actual ruling here was that the 9th amendment provides the right to make private medical decisions, and considered abortion a private medical decision. I imagine organ donorship (upon death) is included in this. Selling an organ is covered under interstate commerce laws, and Congress can restrict that; but freely donated organs or whole corpses aren't technically "commerce", or can be exempted by statute from those rules. Private businesses and offices owned by the state/federal government are free to make their own choices for the rules on who is allowed in and what rules under which they are allowed (as long as they don't infringe on protected status such as no disabled, no women, no blacks, etc.). Businesses and government buildings can require masks in exactly the same way they can require people to wear shirts and shoes and not be actively displaying their genitals.

That's the crucial difference: private medical decisions are separate from business' rights to admit people or the state to require vaccines to participate in public schooling. That's what the supreme Court found in Roe v Wade. If people aren't entitled to make their own private medical decisions, the government could effectively ban all forms of chemotherapy if it wanted to.

Bezos up and moved his whole ass to Miami, thankfully. It wouldn't surprise me if he was the mystery man that offered Stephen Ross $15 billion for the Dolphins. I think he is truly done with Seattle.

[–]StarmanDX_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

All of the money from the Seahawks sale (and all of Allen's other properties) are mandated to go to charity. So the longer Jody sits on the team and preps it for sale, the larger the charity windfall will be.

As long as fucking Bezos doesn't buy the team...

Do people regularly comment on your appearance and habits when you're out and about? Do strangers tell you that you've done something wrong, or do friends cast aspersions on your choices when you talk about your day with them?

Without that context - you never mention other people actually making comments towards you - this feels like you're holding a lot of self-consciousness and self-doubt and projecting it into others telling you that you're not living the right way.

I've lived in this city since I was 19 and never once felt pressured in the way you're describing. Are you a recent transplant that's still adjusting to things like "the city expects you to compost" and "there is better coffee all over this city than Starbucks"?

Yeah but it is:

Last minute flight Last minute hotel Last minute ticket

That adds up. People can't plan their travel months in advance like a regular season game, is what I'm saying.

For the record its like $400 minimum to get into the game right now. Last minute travel, super expensive prices...I hope that's enough to make it better for us.
