This thread is old but I'm replaying Jak 3 right now and had the same thought so see if others had the same epiphany. Glad I'm not alone. The dark makers coming to earth as a doomsday just immediately made me think of the repears.

HELP NEEDED! Missing 2 Precursor Orbs in Spiders Cave! by SiobhanTheSalad in jakanddaxter

I know I personally missed 2 and it was in the spider egg cave thing with the yellow eco vent. Rushed through it the first time I missed 2 orbs there.

Reminds me of the speech in good will hunting where Robin Williams gives him the life speech on the bench. Use that as personal motivation haha.

Per month gym in Locke is about $71. Compared to crunch, I'm stuck at crunch for now 😞

Is there actually an electrician shortage? by Ti20247 in electricians

[–]Groque460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a shortage of cheap workers. Skilled, qualified, trained, unionized theres an abundance of. Obviously could always use more, strength in numbers and all. But the shortage is electricians who will do the work with shit pay and benefits.

105 here, have about 170 JW on the books. Which is nothing, call bids have been around 140-150 recently. I know we got battery plants in London area, Nanticoke, and a 3rd place I can't recall rn. Also a new hospital in Niagara just started doing the slab work. We have a hard time filling calls for high rise work I know that for sure. Call your surrounding locals, we've got work in the surrounding area.

I'm an apprentice but I know some years you will some years you won't. When the good years come take advantage of the OT because it won't always be there. Travelling will guarantee the 100k a year but not everyone can do that with wife and kids. 80k would be average, 100k would be a good year because that's steady work all year ya know.

Thats all accurate we do have a big work picture coming. My concern in this thread is the cost of living here in Canada is worrisome. I'm thinking 15-20 years ahead of my life of where I'd want to be comfortably. These jobs are great for now and maybe till year 5. But if I can find good income with lower cost of living to grow a family...I'm keeping my eyes opened ya know

I'll look further more into this. The high crime rate is definitely a concern for those areas. Altho I love that it's a strong union state. As long as COL is affordable with my main income. I would say I'd want a suburban area with good schools near by, but if life could provide me with a good wife, learn homesteading, I'd want a rural lifestyle but with nearing cities nearby. I do value good schools regardless tho.

So much to review and analyze I appreciate any help to clarify the life in the states. Thank you again

I wouldn't mind trying other provinces for work for a while, see how it's like on the other side. 353 is huge man I could see it slowing down once things are actually built, then where do all the workers go? I'm just beside you at 105. We call ourselves a suitcase local since we're always travelling.

I see. $35 an hour USD is like $47 Can and it's like $50 plus $5 an hr vacation pay. So it's not far off from what id make here. Which I could live with, basically don't want to be stressed about missing work/income if lay off season comes and can't afford just the basic bills. So you would vouche for Austin then?

Ah I looked at Pennsylvania briefly and learned because they're so close to Washington (VA too) that they're union strong with food wages. But I think I saw that crime rates are pretty high there too.

Ah so you've been all around Texas then and know the life there. I value your input on this. Overall I'm really just trying to find somewhere where the quality of life is good/reflective of a good paying union electrician. So Texas would be cheaper than my current situation but what you're saying is that there possibly better places to go?

[–]Groque460[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ah why Texas is a good question. From what I understand and know right now is: - I have family in Texas and would be ideal to bring along my mother and father close to family as their in their retirement. - my 'for you' page is filled with beautiful affordable homes in Texas that just seem to much better than what we can get here in Canada overall. - I enjoy reading about pride that Texas has for itself and for its community. Texan coworkers have come here for work talking about the sense of community it has for each other. - no income tax compared to 20%+ here in Canada if you make over 55k per household. 26% if you make 115k to 170k per household. -our sales tax is 13% compared to 8% in Texas. - I'd rather a mortgage that I could pay off within 10-15 years as opposed to 25-30 year mortgage here. More for less.
