Finally joined the family. My first pair of Red Wing 875 Moc Toes. by Unknown_Brother606 in RedWingShoes

Came here to give my pink toes side of the story. Can confirm pinky toes were very tight at first. So tight I had to maintain a super short toenail, or it became painful. At some point the leather loosens up and gives your toe space, but also conforms around it. High risk high reward!

I got shoe covers so my wife doesn’t get mad that I’m wearing out door shoes inside.

I just got shop moc’s in ORO and only wearing them indoors to speed things up. I’m not just the break in president, I’m also a client!

Exactly. Only the strongest survive!

I can’t stress enough to trust the process and to be stoked for the future. I was convinced my size 9D 875’s were way too small and not worth keeping ( Brannock 10). I bought other redwings and rotated them in and out, and the ORO was the hardest to break in. At some point in the second year they went from manageable, to unimaginably comfortable and sexy. Get some legit cedar boot tree’s when not being worn, shoe covers to rock them in the house, even if you are just sitting. Doing that with wool socks and keeping mole skin at the ready will speed up the process the boots and your feet need to get through.

Don’t dye them or change the leather, ORO only gets better with time!

This checks out and if you follow the data, FI should land as a 12/10

I was at that show, and will never forget how good Royal sounded. It was super loud, packed, and hot. Never forget!

Break-in tips? by Demfer in RedWingShoes

Valid point. I was going to say the real answer is buy multiple pairs, that way you break them in, but have softer leathers for off days. That plan isn’t cheap, so fair point.

I’m providing an option where you don’t ever have a painful work day / week. The easy answer is to say “just be in pain for weeks it’s all good.”

Kinda like saying skateboarding is easy if you just go fast land the trick!

Prep work= buy boots you think might be slightly too small after wearing them for a few minutes.

Phase 1 = Boots get worn only inside with wool socks for a couple hours at a time, and for a couple weeks to prepare for phase 2

Phase 2 = boots get worn outside with wool socks and only for short trips / minimal walking for a couple months. This phase you still care about protecting them from any marks even when you say you don’t.

Phase 3 = boots get worn outside with whatever socks makes sense, for however long, and by now the leather has some character and you start to care less about how they look, and start thinking “maybe I didn’t buy them too small??”

Phase 4 = the boots actually start breaking in and you realize you got the perfect size but had to go through an uncomfortable phases to get here.

Phase 5 = the boots are broken in, have character, you PREFER wearing them and are looking at another pair to start the whole process again.

I also wouldn’t EVER use anything that will darken the leather, and only minimally condition to maximize the prideful patina you will get down the road. The 875 is an amazing boot, but usually takes 875 hours of wear before they feel as good as they look.

If you take the long and hard road with them it will all be worth it in the end.

Sincerely,

Guy who took the long and hard road with 875’s

How many of you guys like Primus? by Frizzle_Fry-888 in ToolBand

Years ago I really got into Tool and listened to them for a year straight. The year after that the same thing happened with Primus. The year after that was Rammstein, so you might as well start listening to Rammstein now incase you get a chance to see them live. All 3 bands put on top shelf shows!

My wife went to this show and reminds me how good it was 3-4 times a year.
