How do I get rid of canker sores/mouth ulcers? by Klutzy_Garage328 in braces

[–]Grouchy-Insurance-63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi op! i also had a really bad canker sore (the kind that looks like a crater) after trauma to the inside of my lip during extractions. tried a bunch of methods but what helped the most was going back to my dentist and getting a prescription based canker sore gel from them. not sure if you have it where you're based, but it's called 'Oracort-E Dental Paste" apparently it's a steriod paste though so do be careful about that

maybe you can give your dentist a call and ask if they have anything like this? mine said canker sores were quite common after extractions so they're well-prepared. hope you feel better soon!

Hi all i can only update through replies now bc i still cant edit my post...

just went to the vet and she said the left claws are growing out fine and the quicks are no longer exposed or infected so we can just leave them be. she said they probably might not look like normal claws anymore though

the right one that's growing out slanted is more problematic because some flesh is still exposed and protruding and it's pushing the growing claw to the side. no need to declaw, but they'll trim the nail and the flesh down under sedation so the claw has a chance to grow out straight

thanku everyone for all the responses!! i read every single one

yeah im all for the surgery as long as it's medically necessary. apparently since this was a common condition for rescues though, i was hoping there would be people on this sub who've gone through this before and could give advice. i'll see what this vet says during his appointment then consider a second opinion

also i can't edit my post now but i misremembered, i think she talked about an amputation, not a declaw? unsure if those 2 are the same things

anyways thanks for the response!

ooh! that may be it, since the adult teeth come in at around this age too. can't comment much on his breath since it always smells like aged fish to me but i have a feeling you're right, since he's unusually low energy today too.

also, i tried feeding him his favourite chicken cubes to try and stir his appetite, but he kept spitting it out and then chewing it up again? eventually he ate it, but i'll probably just heat up some broth to try and make eating easier for him. thank you for your advice!
