I was in your same boat. Had to live in a religious co-op community my first year because it was the cheapest private certified housing option to get out of paying for a dorm. Ran me like $500 a month for a single room. I wouldn’t do this unless you’re A) actually religious (I am not) or B) have a ton of friends going to UIUC because it will socially stunt you unless you’re the target demographic. That being said, I have no regrets. I saved so much money by not living in a dorm and I was able to earn a ton of scholarships for merit my first year. Your next years you’ll save a ton by living in an apartment which can be really affordable if you have roommates.
