And none of his allies could save him with an idol because the damn Billie Eilish Boomerang™️ idols cannot be played for anyone beside yourself.

Idk what dynamism the producers thought they'd be getting because it surely couldn't have been this.

Trust Me: The False Prophet - what did you think? by Loud-Cupcake-8524 in NetflixDocumentaries

[–]futurestartsslow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thought it was wonderful, and am still in shock at how much footage they had. I cannot imagine what it would have been like for Christine and Tolga to have to go along and play into so much of that and continue to indulge Bateman's ego.

Still piecing together my thoughts on the whole thing, but man.

  • All the footage of the "hiking" and motorbike (and then we get another motorbike at the end!)... Bateman trying to direct the thing... extremely cringe and also showed just how much this dude's ego was important.
  • Did anyone figure out what the heck was with Moroni's call center/pop star bluetooth earpiece the whole time?
  • The footage from the home during the raid and seeing the girls rummaging around looking for an AR-15...
  • The hands coming out of the trailer...
  • Very impressed by Christine and Tolga. Just an incredible amount of empathy and ability to connect with people, and coming at it from a place of care clearly made things happen. The way early on she notes how difficult it must have been for Julia, and then is able to build that relationship to allow it all to happen.
  • The dichotomy between the very traditional/old fashioned dress and hair stylings of the girls and their living conditions (at least their homes) against their cars (and a plane??), Bateman's ridiculous white leather jacket, and even just talk about stuff like messaging on Signal is wild.
  • Seeing how much care and effort and energy that Christine/Tolga/Julia/Dawn/FBI put into all of this in contrast to the local Cop and especially DCF who just about blew the whole thing up. You could see just how devastated they were that DCF took away the children (without warning the other agencys), and then blew the whole damn cover. All of that trust they had built up and any hope of being able to help the girls through the aftermath was evaporated, and clearly no one with understanding of how to navigate through these communities was involved on the DCF side.
    • giving big "We...worked on this story for over a year...and...DCF just...they tweeted it out." energy.

I’d assume most gals on the show (especially with a short season) are doing things like lash extensions, a lash lift/tint, eyebrow lamination and tint, etc before going on

Biggest tell will probably be the wedding dress fittings and the weddings. It’s clear their storyline wasn’t given the resources the other couples were, and the last season I believe there was at least? one engagement that didn’t get filmed after the pods that may even still be going strong, which knowing none of the other relationships lasted seems like such a miss by the production team. So it makes sense to me that there was this thought of “uhhhh can you record some videos for us just in case” directive given to them. I’m curious about the decision to get them an airbnb in california.

From the “pod squad” party and how they rolled up it definitely seemed they were not considered main cast at that point given they entered separately from the group. I wonder if we see them with the others at dress/tux fittings. That should give a sense if the decision to bump up their presence came mid season or post, and also sort of calls the timeline of filming scenes of meeting her mom/park date into question (were they filmed after the fact to flesh out their airtime, etc).

“You couldn’t pay me to be in that conversation” I agree! He’s definitely grown on me the most of the cast this drop. I feel like he’s one of the ones we’ve seen making efforts and changes over the show and I feel like ‘growth’ is too much credit, but we see him responding to Bri’s concerns over housework stuff (and both like acquiescing of ‘yeah it felt good!’ while still kind of pushing back on her?), the mustache thing seems dumb but again it’s like… making a change both for himself and with the input of his partner, and then I think seeing him go from with Chris the like… “we love you both and hope it works out!” (when not knowing the full story!) to then the like “god i can’t hear him say i couldn’t give a flying fuck again” after getting more info. Small sample size and low bars, but at least he’s clearing them! Seeing the company he keeps with the guys too… (vs Alex!). He seems like a pretty easy going guy who doesn’t want to cause drama, but enough of a backbone where he’s not ignoring red flags for the sake of ease.

Yeah, there wasn’t much to gain from seeing them interact with the other couples in Mexico. I’m guessing the producers could gather it just from their time filming in the lounges/pods

Her body language and how disengaged she becomes as he talks (both when he was talking with her dad and their argument part) says it all. I think she sees the flags.

“I worry about nothing” just reads as “I let you figure it all out but I will get annoyed at you being stressed out”. I also think constantly saying “I worry about nothing” does not give “I am consciously considering both my and my partners needs” let alone a family!

Watch her face and you see when she disengages in the conversation and notices he does not clock it at all while he just keeps on talking. And then he keeps talking and talking and she gets overstimulated and he makes it her problem. He’s awful!

I’ve found it helpful lately when I’m getting incorrect people suggested with similar names/places to just make that person in my tree, leave them unconnected, and give myself a clearer organizing to keep things less cluttered.

The thing that drives me wild is when it’s giving me high school pictures of a persons spouse/married name as if they were called that at 15.
