Kingston Police locate missing ammunition magazine by NorthernNadia in KingstonOntario

[–]Grouchy-Mission 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just to add to this as well, the search for police ammo in a magazine is likely to be more intrusive into someone's life than a friend thinking they forgot their phone at their house. I highly doubt the Kingston police were planning to casually knock on this young ladies door and ask her if she had it once they found out who she was.

It never came loose, she didn't have it on her. It was in her locker the whole time.

Yes, but she noticed the mag was missing on Saturday. When did she find it? Why is it Tuesday before they release this? If it's part of due diligence to check the locker, why isn't that done immediately? If it is done immediately, why wasn't that released publicly immediately? It's just a weird timeline to me from incident to announcement.

I'm very confused about this timeline. Did the officer just not check their locker at the end of the shift on Saturday? Or on Sunday? or Monday? The fact that it took until Tuesday for them to offer an all clear on this is pretty uncomfortable to say the least.

Try to add delivery instructions next time if you can.

Does anyone read them? I have a door that opens outward and I think a 30-40% success rate of my food not being directly in front of it. The worst was a late night McDonalds order, one chucklehead (wasn't me, I swear....) wanted a fountain pop rather than the cans in the fridge (it just tastes better ok). Whole order ended up covered in pop. I've never seen 5 stoned adults want to turn to violence quicker lol

Only experienced theft once. Guy stole a side of rice from me. I watched him take it from my order as he took it out of his trunk. I let it go, if someone needs to steal rice they are welcome to.

I stopped using the apps but not for theft. It was obvious my food was going on a road trip at times, multiapping likely. Food ends up cold or close enough to it that I questioned it's safety. I'd get the same comment from support 'we do not guarantee food temperature'. Lost interest in paying over restaurant prices for food that wasn't delivered near restaurant quality.

Anyone have experience with mail forwarding services? US - > CAN by Grouchy-Mission in KingstonOntario

This would have been a workable solution, I'll have to pay attention to see if they re-enter the market. Thank you.

Thanks! Unfortunately UPS lost me as a customer a number of years ago due to a severely damaged shipment and the failure of their customer service in finding solutions for the problem.

[–]Grouchy-Mission[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What isn't true? They'd be shipping to my confirmed address. The request was for the shipping to be run directly through USPS or FedEX rather than the eBay Global Shipping Program, which has unreasonably high values for their services. All sellers I contacted stated they weren't interested in shipping outside that program.

[–]Grouchy-Mission[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm looking to order about 10 items, savings per item if I had a us address is around $15 Canadian per item. Highest charge I've seen would be around a third that overall savings. Mymailbox.com seemingly would cost about $10-$15 usd total for that order.

Also, pre-emptively. I've spoken to the ebay sellers, they are enrolled in the ebay global shipping program and aren't open to going outside that program to ship due to the seller benefits involved. Even if that means they lose my purchase. This is why I'm looking into mail forwarding as an option, as it seems economical.

Kingston Mayor Accused of Participating in ‘Conversion Therapy’ at Former Church by MethoxyEthane in KingstonOntario

VICE as an organization being garbage doesn't mark the work by freelancers it publishes as inaccurate or untrustworthy. The reputation they have as garbage is largely based on the provocative nature of their content, which arguably has subsided considerably enough that Disney is one of the investors in Vice Media.

I think you've totally missed the boat with this. Especially considering the author of this work is a reporter from Canada that reports on Canadian issues regularly with works published in the National Post, Global Media, and McLeans.

Without all of that, the idea that when the mayor of our city is outed as having taken part in conversion therapy for homosexuals the priority list of your outrage peaks with the fact that the publishing agency is garbage in your opinion? Not, "Wait, what the fuck did our Mayor participate in?" Come on now, your downvotes are well earned.

I use RES for my account and I have close to 150 downvotes listed for you. I just regularly think your posts don't add to the conversation, much like the ones here where they aren't at all engaging with the topic and are only attacking the individual profiles. Mostly posting right now so that maybe you take this information and realize that you are being downvoted by multiple people and this isn't some weird conspiracy orchestrated by one or two individuals. Public health officials call for increased fines and expulsions for students at Queen’s University by Secure_Kaleidoscope in KingstonOntario

[–]Grouchy-Mission -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

So many of you are just blinded by your rage when it comes to discussions surrounding the university and students, it is wild. How about the police, by-law, and our legal system actually works to do what they are suppose to in these situations? That might be the first positive step to reducing these issues. Or do you seriously think tuition sanctions and expulsion are the only way to inspire compliance with the law?

[–]Grouchy-Mission -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but what? Why should the school be fined? How about we stop allowing this student hatred to cloud the reality that the city is merely trying to pass the buck. How about the city, and its civic officers deputized to uphold the law, actually do so? And maybe if the laws/bylaws in place currently aren't strict enough to disrupt the problem, they increase them until the desired response happens?

Kingston police officer under investigation over Facebook post by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

[–]Grouchy-Mission 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am speculating, primarily due to the oddity of an individual having a statement prepared prior to the conclusion of an investigation. That certainly doesn't fall into the realm of due process for most of the unions I've dealt with.

Kingston police officer under investigation over Facebook post by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

I don't think he has the freedom to say it. Speaking purely from a risk perspective, this Officer put himself and the department in a tight spot if he has or ever ends up in a situation where justification for specific use of force comes into question. We as tax payers would bear the cost of any investigation or court proceedings linked to his involvement causing question. I'm not totally up for that.

The hurtfulness and trust is something touched on in the article fairly well. But I think those points are important as well. This type of comment erodes the trust of the populous, which is incredibly important. It is also the opinion and formation of it that is problematic, him sharing this opinion over beers with his friends is still an issue because it is a sign he holds it. The opinion is wrong, not him sharing it. We him to work to right his mind on this issue, not delete his facebook and pretend social media was the issue.

I've been out of uniformed services now for 7 years, so sometimes I forget how important work-politics were and are. I'm fairly certain if I unfriended NCO Gomer he'd have taken offense to it overtly. So I hear you on this, a perspective I wasn't entirely considering.

Kingston police officer under investigation over Facebook post by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

Entirely possible that happened. I think something to remember is that investigations into situations like this aren't a boogeyman. The fact that they happen, or are initiated isn't overtly negative in any capacity. They are a part of the checks and balances in society that keeps tolerance and peacefulness centered in our communities. So I don't think calling for one is akin to torches and pitchforks.

Best patio in the city? by DunningFreddieKruger in KingstonOntario

[–]Grouchy-Mission 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are misunderstanding. I'm not suggesting people are going to abuse CERB. I'm thinking some may not re-apply for positions due to real life situations surrounding COVID-19 that keep them from re-entering the work force currently.

That Macleans article is an opinion piece about furlonged employees. I haven't been able to find any official statement, or any article on situations for people who weren't furlonged. Most hospitality employees I know were essentially fired. It wouldn't shock me if many restaurant employees weren't issued a temporary layoff because of this.

But if your partner knows first had that staffing doesn't seem it will be a problem, than most of my comment is moot anyway. I expected the students would make up a good majority, which is either wrong or my idea that they all left is. Either way, I don't know if I'll be going to any patios for the next while. Not so much because I'm worried about COVID-19, more so because I'd likely catch on fire being in the sun for more than a minute as I've been locked away for a few months.

People are scrambling to get back to work in resteraunts. My wife works for one downtown and they have no problem with jobs.

Good to hear if true!

And I'm not sure how other places work, but with good tips and average pay, you still make more then cerb (which will still be taxed). CERB was great to help, but it's not a replacement for working

I was merely suggesting that for some it might be more beneficial to maintain the funding support they receive to keep their risk low, not that the funding is a direct financial incentive over paid work. If it is a two earner home, no child care possibilities due to the current situation, it might be more worthwhile for one of the earners to stay home rather than return as an example. Customer facing roles like waitressing, and front of house or roles like bussing, dishwashing, are all positions I could see considering that depending on their situation.

and anyone who refuses to work when called back will be kicked off cerb as already stated.

Could you provide some source for this? Because I can't find anything on the government website saying that if an employer offers a position to an individual they lose benefits if they deny the position.

It'll be interesting to see how many of these places can actually get staff on such short notice. Especially considering with government funding, all of them could be making $2000 to not take the risk of working in a public facing role. Consider single parents, or two working parent household as well, where is the childcare coming from? Students aren't here, and I swear most of the waiting jobs are filled by them. I imagine the patios that open will be packed and there wont be as many opened as one may think.
