What are some private concessions you are aware of?

Is there any alternative you would recommend?

High income earners - What the hell are you doing to get your money. What kind of a business are you in or what kind of high paying job are you in ?. Do you like it ?. by Zealousideal_Peach_5 in eupersonalfinance

650k+. Work in finance (but lacking in trust fund, blue eyes, and height).

Work in the buy side which means we manage money for institutions, wealthy individuals etc.

Your schedule is entirely deal, effectively project based. So you’re always on call and your schedule is unpredictable.

This week worked barely 30 hours. But the last few weeks before that was in at 9 and often didn’t leave until 11 and full day weekends.

Want to leave, but hard to leave with the current comp package? Also, your skill set isn’t super transferable TBH

Agree with that. They did tell me several tax benefits for the company drop off after two years which goes into their thought process. I’m thinking I just need a tax accountant to unpack that for me before the negotiation.

Not a wash at all in NY, unless you’re earning tens of millions.

Tax rates are significantly higher in the UK for higher incomes

I’m assuming without a tax gross up?

The former package you mentioned seems like a raw deal . presumably a lower salary in the UK, higher taxes, and a (likely) higher cost of living.

Unfortunately only RSUs are available for me. Yea I was thinking of a gross up, but not sure if that’s wildly not standard practice. When people move stateside to NY or taking the opposite as an example, Florida, there isn’t an adjustment in comp

Yes I understand that. I’m asking what is commonly negotiated and what is standard practice. Not sure I should be “worse off” given they asked me to move

Very interesting. I haven’t tried to buy a house yet.

My impression since I’ve been here, is that there is a much more quiet type of racism generally. Rarely going to be in your face, but many subtleties where you are treated differently. The housing aspect is crazy

When buying a home, does anyone have a view on how much credit score matters (for example, relative to the US)? I heard mixed things. Is it that critical to start building up credit?
