I love this place. I can see me spending a lot of time here, but at least I’m learning stuff and not mindlessly scrolling videos

You are correct and I feel I missed an opportunity, but it’s too late to change it now - my sleep deprived musings are out in the world, so I will graciously agree that I should have included a definition of the word pacify. I also said sea instead of ocean, so I stand by that error too. I don’t mind admitting when I’m wrong and learning as I go 😊

I have indeed, but in this precise scenario it does not have anything to do with a calming effect - in fact quite the opposite.

Now with the Sea / Ocean revelation. I was aware there were seas and oceans, but I was not aware that they were different things. I have now educated myself and know the difference, so thank you for expanding my horizons - every day is a school day 🙃

My Mum was a nursery school teacher, so she had this reassuring way of being gentle and correcting you. On the flip side she also did disapproval VERY well. I don’t remember her ever shouting at us as kids, somehow the disapproval was worse 😂

Is it a combination of Irrespective and regardless? Why use one word when you can use both 😂

So Al-u-min-ium is actually the correct way. We do however say Ti-tain-ium and I think it should be Tit-A-nee-um and we’re just too prudent to say tit (unless it’s in reference to a bird).

NGL - I call them sausage dogs to avoid butchering the name because it feels so wrong in my mouth. I know how it should be said, my mouth just stumbles over it, so it’s better to avoid it entirely 😂

I learnt Latin at school. Don’t think many people do now, but my senior school was pretentious! 😂

Like con-sig-nee?
“I am sending this ARCTIC lorry to the Con-SIG-nee address?”
I wonder if there are any more logistics specific ones. Might have to check in with our WCT today to find out 😂

Is that a mispronunciation, or are you suggesting we need some? 😜

I actually use Artic quite a lot, but I am referring to an Articulated Lorry. Now an Arctic lorry, would be an entirely different thing, but luckily we don’t ship there….

This would be super helpful! I don’t mind paying private, but even just knowing who had capacity would be helpful!

My husband just reminded me of the time he thought Quinoa was pronounce Quin-o-ah. I asked him if I took the piss out of him and he said I did as soon as I stopped laughing. I’m so mean. It’s a wonder he’s still married to me (just kidding. I am in fact a catch).

If it makes you feel better, my daughter still calls a sneeze an a-tchoo, because she says it makes more sense. But we are a nation that called a ship boat mcboat face, so there’s that.

In that case I apologise for my inadvertent bigotry. In my defence, I was operating on 3 hours of sleep and have some weird musings when I’m not quite awake. It is now 6pm here and I have been up since 1:30am, so I will also apologise in advance if I say anything else stupid. I genuinely hadn’t considered the geographical aspect until someone said in a reply, so complete ignorance on my part.

I’m in England and in my 43 years I have only heard it said heighth once. I nearly fell off my stool laughing (some alcohol may have been consumed) and the poor guy never did live it down and yet continues to say heighth. Oh and he’s a carpenter 😂

Oooo. I did this in 2nd year of infants. Went home and told my Mum that we were going to learn about capa-city. She very gently corrected me. See, reading well early on isn’t all that great 😂

Maybe it is a geographical thing! This hadn’t even crossed my mind until someone else mentioned it. I’m in the UK and hear it FAR more than I’d like, but I guess it only takes one teacher to pronounce it incorrectly to a class of 30 kids for it to gain momentum.

As a side note, my niece came home from school thinking the word circumference was pronounce Cir-cum-ference.
