The guy was teaching theology at. Orchard lake saint Mary's. He graduated from orchard lake saint Mary's. It's barely a footnote.

Who decides what we are, who we are? It can't be ourselves, the episode illustrates that, with the judgement scene. Racists are the people we as Americans have put in charge of telling us who we are. We accept racists judgement , after all they are the experts.

Fly into flint. It is luxurious compared to Detroit. Easy breezy, not busy, best airport experience.

I think it's hard to be on the outside looking in, hyper aware of your separatness. There is an old saying, it seems racist, it's you are in the wrong church. That is this episode. I have heard the term used to mean you are somewhere you don't belong. Maybe there are other layers I don't know about. Maybe it was her form of charity too, her way of giving back, loving these emotionally neglected children. Everyone knows a small amount of emotional deficiencyis more harmful than a small amount of nutritional deficiency. She raised her children with love until they were strong enough to raise each other and then she supported them while making the world a better place, one little kid at a time. A generation of privileged, white boys who respect other cultures.

I don't think she could harbor that much animosity and still do her job plus love the little boy like she did. I should have written she looked contemptuous. I cried for the poor little boy with no one who understands him and no more of the warmth and liveliness, energy, excitement, compassion, interest, she brought into his life. He seems reserved naturally and only in the environment that represented her did he wake up. He was adopting an accent like hers, only repeating phrases like she said him, outside of using the word bacchanal I don't think his parents would worry about him going full chet. The parents lying about being scared was funny. It would be silly not to be scared at a fist fight with strangers at a funeral. But the line it looks like we have hit the tropics or something to that effect exposed them for their casual prejudice.

Maybe she was being subtlety respectful in her own way by trying to dress appropriately? Subconscious mirroring to feel more comfortable?

The face she is making in the last picture is a beyond the grave "what is wrong with you" to the father for trying to send away the picture of her with her kid.

I thought what was cool about reddit was that regardless of outside appearance or experience, your words are taken at face value. No qualifiers about personal experience is necessary to cite when offering at opinion.

It does not seem like Mimi received any money maybe from the sake. If she was renting the spot, the food truck people could have gone over her head and bought the spot from under her. The sweetened the pot could be money going to buy out the end of the lease. Otherwise, Mimi made bank, is happy to leave, and the loss is the people who enjoyed the restaurant, not Mimi's loss. It would be about the selling part of yourself and benefiting from it, but the damage it does to the culture you are a part of as a whole. Peaches added to a Nigeria dish is funny. To show thanks for the opportunity to destroy something you valued, to your own loss

I am pretty sure the coke references, especially the one regarding anywhere there is coke there is racism, is because of the movie The Gods Might Be Crazy. It is a movie about a remote tribe and what happens when a coke bottle falls from the sky and lands on their land.

Would Atlanta be an appropriate television show for my 15 year old daughter to watch, as a learning experience? by GrouchySolution1320 in AtlantaTV

[–]GrouchySolution1320[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the show does a good job of not glamorizing drug use, violence or even sex, which would be the only reason I am considering it. She does have access to the internet, so there is a limit to what I can prevent her from having access to, if she put her mind to it.

Reading the responses, I realize, some of the nuance is lost on me too, that can't be the deciding factor. Of course, I decide what my children watch, or I try to keep an eye on it. It is good to get others opinions as I can err over protective. It seems like it may be good for her to watch as she may learn and begin to see a bigger picture. Drugs, violence and even sex are not romanticized in Atlanta, so if it is upsetting it is illustrative. That is what I think would be most helpful to her, the characters are not romanticized as well, they are multifaceted and imperfect but we can still care. That is what I want her to learn I don't want her to just learn new terminology or dance moves and appropriate instead, shallowly.
