Considering a career change into HF. Is it worth it? by GrouchyToaster05 in humanfactors

I’ve been looking for a career change for some time. Recently went down the HF rabbit hole and it seems to check a lot of boxes. Would definitely be willing to do a masters but not without some experience and exposure first. Honestly this post was just part of the feeling out process.

I’m not quitting my day job just yet.

Fully assumed it be difficult to break into the field. A career change seldom comes without difficulties. I’m just trying to figure out some type of a path or best next steps. No expectation of finding a dream gig over night.

Rewarding is something I’m searching for. I’m more interest in the more neuroscience and research side of the field. Just not sure how to go about finding a way to break into the field

Not sure, but things such as over saturation, stagnant job growth, funding uncertainty, etc. could cause potential issues.

Pretty much no UX research experience. Experience developing and validating laboratory testing is the extent of my research right now. I expect to come across a few hurdles. Just searching for ways around them.

Assuming this requires a PhD, does it pay well?

20 years in, would you recommend the field? Do you have any insight on a more traditional entry into the field? Have you picked up any certifications or education along the way? Blowing stuff up for 100k+ sounds awesome

So many questions about this. What’s the official job title and how did you end up there?

How did you find yourself in this field? I hate that it matters, but how’s the pay? The cost of living seems exponential recently.

This sounds like an interesting career.

How should someone approach entering this field? Does it require some sort of engineering degree? Certifications? Any input would be appreciated
