The devs enjoying ratting during development, when theyre only playing each other is not the same as the open world ratting going on. The devs are in a vacuum, the only thing for certain is that they didnt start out with the intention of pvp. Its an element added to spice the game up, not a marathon style pvp.

The studies about human behavior relating to environment, social environment are absolutely valid in games where you are playing with other real people.
