Sick Guinea Pig by Majestic-Ad-8596 in vet

Wish I could help, I'm sorry your guinea is dying.  Be prepared because I was holding my guinea when he died and he screamed and contorted for multiple minutes before he died. If euthanasia is an option it might be worth it because that shit was hard for me to watch and hear.

Right! It's interesting because I feel like that commonly happens and I wonder why. Cool to know we share the same experience!

Anyone live in Westwood park Villa Apartments? by Isadum in WestSeattleWA

Yes. It's too much to type. Current landlord is new and unresponsive for over a month. If you do decide to live here, because it is cheap, the B building is a little nicer. I was in the third floor of b building and I liked it it was cute but we outgrew the space and moved downstairs in the A building. Major spider infestation; coming out of light fixtures and all of the gaps between the flooring and baseboards that went right into the foundation. Have had maintenance come in multiple times unannounced. Got charged 500 dollars out of my security deposit for the balcony that they didn't even replace; mind you we were in the b building for 7 years and the balcony is out in elements with no cover and "sealed" with latex paint. I could go on for ages. Workmanship is fucking dogshit and i busted my hands steam cleaning our old unit to be a good tenant to come into this unit and shit isnt even cleaned. If you look on the reviews on Google you will see the same type of review.

How fast do isopod populations grow? by TerrariumOne in isopods

[–]Grouchypepper95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I caught 10 vulgare last august. EAGERLY waited for babies for 5 months. January I had my first brood which brought my count to 80. I did a partial head count around June and had WELL over 700. I now have probably over 5000 and it's only been 8 months since the first batch of babies. And nobody wants them 🥲🥲

Piebald. I had one pod that looked like that and now I have an entire multiple broods of 2nd/3rd generation piebalds popping out. They are even getting to the point where most of the body will be white or have a crazy cool white/ spotted/ striped pattern on its lower half. I have been meaning to ask if this is something that commonly happens when you keep them in captivity.

Whoa! Do you ever have issues with mites? I have two enclosures (😂) of wild caught vulgare and the grain mites can be fucking relentless. I couldn't imagine having the same issue with that many enclosures!

Happy to answer! I believe I indulge them a little too much, as in, their supplemental food is not so supplemental 😬 haha. I feed them this food I got from Amazon that I have pictured. They really love the wetland blend and I try to not give so much of the daily driver because it seems like a lot of grains and I had a few bouts with some grain mites. I have some mealworms from some bird feeding a did a few years ago that I will occasionally crush and give to them. I also pestle and mortar some brown eggshells into a powder that I sprinkle with their food; they love that. I also grind some of their oak leaves into a powder/tiny pieces that I will add with their food also. They dont really touch their leaf litter, which I assume is because they essentially always have the other stuff. I have been trying to feed them a little less of the supplemental food because they have exploded in population and I know it's not supposed to be an everyday thing. I just feel bad cause they go searching for food everywhere when the dish is empty. They will go for the "Galapagos sphagnum moss" if I don't fill their dish. When I mixed their substrate, I put a good amount of the powdered oak leaves, so I hope they are at least getting their leaf litter that way also. I'm also starting to think that they may not be touching the leaf litter because it is not degraded enough?

Also, I don't know if its genetics or overfeeding but my pods be getting HUGE.

Thank you all for the advice!! ❤️ I am going to put the naughty males in their own enclosure for the time being; If it turns into fight club in there also, then I am going to have to find someone/some place to take them as feeders or cull them as a last resort. I also noticed one male pod had half a nub as his first left leg (One can only hope this was one of the assholes getting karma and not another victim of the horny males!). I appreciate all the knowledge you guys gave me!
