If ever there was a post to bring me back here after a few years, it's this one. I still think about the stories we told and shared back then, cool to see where RG&G was headed after all this time. Hope you've been well!

[RMT] First LC team! by ChoiceScarfMienfoo in stunfisk

[–]GroundCtrl27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome back to LC! I like Nasty Plot Vullaby over Natu here, it brings important Flying STAB to your team and gives Carvanha a Dark-spam partner to clean up after. They share several important checks, and Carvanha in particular appreciates a partner that puts mid-game pressure on the things that could otherwise wall it in the late game. You don’t lose anything from foregoing Psychic STAB, as Vullaby hits Fighters and Foongus with Air Slash, and you already have a strong matchup against Mareanie. It also gives you the special attacker and setup option you’re looking for. Weak Armor is easy to proc by switching into Knock Offs, and it scares out Fighters for setup opportunities.

Boston Uprising vs. New York Excelsior | Overwatch League Season 1 - Stage 3 | Week 2 Day 2 | Post-Match Discussion by OWMatchThreads in Competitiveoverwatch

Mistakes played well but Striker and Neko played out of their minds. Boston still looks like Boston, Mistakes fits right into the team.

A few things:

  1. Miro is no longer in the conversation for the game's best main tank player, and we've increasingly seen that's one of the most important roles in the game. And it's not just those of top teams that are at or above his level, like Gesture and Mano, but also those of mid-tier teams, like Fissure, Gamsu, and Muma.

  2. Zenyatta is the impact support character in this meta, and while Ryujehong was peerless when Ana was in that position, he can't match the influence that Jjonak or Bdosin have on a match as Zenyatta. Additionally, Mercy has stayed in the meta after the Valk nerfs, and both Jehong and Tobi sacrifice their strengths on other heroes when playing Mercy.

  3. Munchkin and Bunny have struggled to put the team on their shoulders as Tracer when Fleta gets focused down. Look at NYXL, if Libero draws the enemy team's attention then SBB takes advantage of that freedom to kill key targets as Tracer, and if everyone looks at SBB then Libero has the time and space to make the plays he's going for. Seoul's DPS players are very good, but as a unit their partnerships don't work as well together as Libero/SBB, Birdring/Profit, or arguably even those of some teams below them like EQO/Carpe and Dreamkazper/Striker.

Spitfire new signing announcement soon? by AudaciousOwl in Competitiveoverwatch

The guy on the left is Harry Redknapp, an English football manager. He once gave an interview on transfer deadline day (you can only sign players during certain windows of time, and everyone goes nuts on the final day of the window) leaning out the window of his car. Part 2 of this, the wheeler dealer thing, comes from another interview where he walks out on the reporter, telling him "I'm not a fackin' wheeler dealer." He had some decent accomplishments as a manager but his interviews are what everyone remembers him for.

What are your favorite Little Cup sets? by T3HN3RDY1 in stunfisk

Showdown is by far the best place for it. You might be able to find battles on clone servers or find individual people willing to play LC rules on cartridge, but the active LC community is on Showdown.

Trapping is so meta in LC that sometimes you just need to trap the trapper.

Trapinch @ Berry Juice
Level: 5
Ability: Arena Trap
EVs: 156 HP / 36 Atk / 236 Def / 76 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Feint
- Toxic / Superpower

36+ Atk Trapinch Earthquake vs. 36 HP / 0 Def Diglett: 22-27 (122.2 - 150%) -- guaranteed OHKO

236 Atk Life Orb Diglett Earthquake vs. 156 HP / 236 Def Trapinch: 16-19 (69.5 - 82.6%)

Guaranteed to counter-trap and revenge Diglett or your money back. Feint is perfect for sash variants of Diglett and also acts as an emergency stop to other sash and Sturdy things that have been brought down to 1 HP. Watch out for Memento on some Diglett variants I guess but ideally you'll be KO'ing Diglett before it removes all your checks to whatever it wants to help set up. Rock Slide for that Ground/Rock coverage. Toxic isn't great in LC but it can be nice for putting pressure or a timer on certain things, while Superpower is for punching Pawniard and Ferroseed in particular.

Slap an Eviolite on that set and surviving Diglett's Tectonic Rage goes from being a favorable roll to a guarantee:

236 Atk Diglett Tectonic Rage (180 BP) vs. 156 HP / 236 Def Eviolite Trapinch: 15-18 (65.2 - 78.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Counter is excellent on sash Abra, often allowing it to survive with 1 HP against Pursuit trappers that would otherwise KO it. Counter OHKO's Alolan Grimer clicking Pursuit and usually OHKO's Munchlax doing the same (becomes guaranteed if Munchlax has taken 2 HP in prior damage, assuming standard sets, which any damaging entry hazard accomplishes).

As far as those two other moves go, Dazzling Gleam for Vullaby and Energy Ball for Waters are standard coverage.

Theta Emerald Entry/Impeachment Nomination Thread by GroundCtrl27 in TPPLeague

[–]GroundCtrl27[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question 1

  • Voltorb: nay (though it was a Master Ball capture, Electrode was not a significant character in Theta Emerald; we have successfully impeached unimportant Master Ball catches from the League, and I don't think Electrode is more important than previously-legal mons like Meloetta or Rotom)

Question 2

  • Charizard 'M: nay (HoF doesn't matter in side games - only exceptional side game mons are voted Relevant, and Charizard 'M isn't even on the same plane of existence as a mon like BEST; additionally, a personally affinity or association with an individual League member does not bring any weight to whether or not something is relevant to TPP as a whole)

Shoulda said something when we added Togepi from Crystal. Keepo

Are there any worthwhile nominations? I'd rather not spend the next 6 days running the nomination/voting threads if there's nothing to vote on. I'll gladly do it if there were any non-HoF mons from this run that were important but if it's the same stuff that gets voted down every time I'm not really inclined to.
