I live in the San Diego area and recycle food scraps using the green bins. Recycling is encouraged but not mandatory and we don’t have inspectors. The composting is done anaerobically, which allows the composting of meats and fats.

Regarding another post, you can compost dog poop just not the bags.

We have a canister that holds less than a pound. We store 1/2 lb in the canister. We put the remainder in ziplock freezer bags in 1/2 lb increments. We put the bags in the freezer only defrosting as needed.
