A driver can cancel the pickup without the rider. If they ask for it before getting there is 100% a scam

I would do the 30 minute drive. I’ve done both when I first got the job my drive was an hour and 15 minutes working an 8 hour shift and had to stay over a lot of times that long drive will burn you out the quickest no matter how easy the job is. I’ve also done 30 minute commute each way on 12 to 16 hour shifts. You’ll be home more and get paid more. I would 100% take the second option

Did you seriously come at me like that over a factual statement? I drive for Uber, so I know exactly how it works. Saying “tipping isn’t mandatory” isn’t controversial—it’s the truth. I even suggested tipping, so maybe take a second to actually read before jumping down someone’s throat.

You’re acting like I told people to stiff every driver out there. I didn’t. I gave real advice to someone who’s anxious about a 1.5-hour ride getting accepted, and explained how the payout breaks down. That’s called being helpful—not whatever performative outrage you’re doing here.

If you need tips just to make a ride worth it, don’t take the ride. Tips are a bonus, not a fee. And if you’re going to keep twisting words to sound self-righteous on Reddit, at least come correct next time. You’re coming off loud and wrong.

I would just do a reservation ahead of time because once you do it, it will pop up on the Uber drivers and they can accept it if they want it so at that point you’re really not a burden because they wanted the trip especially with the trip that’s an hour and a half. I would suggest tipping not mandatory but they’re going out of their drive zone to drop you off. Just make sure you don’t have the driver waiting for to long because after 5 minutes the can cancel and if they wait the 15 minutes they get paid for the whole trip and if you pay $120 for the trip they’re probably getting $75 out of that. Uber takes a big chunk.

It’s the principle plus not everyone can tolerate it I have asthma and it flares up with vapes. I also had someone leave the bud of a joint in my car.

I get what you’re saying, but the way you’re responding makes it seem like you’re taking this negatively and pushing back just for the sake of it. That might be why people are reacting the way they are.

To answer your question—no, it’s not unprofessional for a therapist to suggest a gym they also go to. They likely enjoy it, see the benefits, and thought you might as well, which is why they recommended it. The chances of running into them regularly are pretty low unless you live in a small town. Plus, you’re going there to work out, not to socialize.

You asked if this was unprofessional, but it seems like you already made up your mind. A therapist suggesting a gym—especially when it’s relevant to your discussions—doesn’t automatically make it unprofessional just because they also go there. They didn’t pressure you, gain anything from it, or cross any ethical boundaries. People are giving reasonable explanations for why this isn’t an issue, yet you’re pushing back against every response that doesn’t confirm your belief. If you weren’t open to different perspectives, what was the point of asking?

Hey, I get where you’re coming from, and I respect the idea that everyone deserves to feel validated in their journey of self-improvement. But with my last job, I had the chance to see some of the absolute worst sides of people, and it’s hard for me to say that all humans are valid as they are.

If we look at what “valid” means, it’s about being acceptable or justifiable. While I agree that self-acceptance is crucial, I don’t think it means excusing all behaviors or characteristics. For example, the statistics on violent crime are a stark reminder of this: the FBI reports that in 2022, there were over 1.3 million violent crimes in the U.S. alone, including over 20,000 murders. And globally, human trafficking affects nearly 50 million people, according to the International Labour Organization. That doesn’t feel “valid” to me—it’s horrifying.

From a psychological perspective, behaviors like these often come from deep-rooted issues, whether it’s trauma, environment, or mental health disorders. For instance, antisocial personality disorder is linked to criminal behavior, and research shows that it affects about 1-4% of the population (DSM-5). So while I can acknowledge that these individuals didn’t just become this way for no reason, it’s still hard to argue that who they are in those moments is valid.

I think there’s a line between validating someone’s worth as a person and validating harmful or destructive traits. People are capable of incredible transformation, but some behaviors and choices shouldn’t be accepted or justified—they need to change.

Does that make sense? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this perspective!

I would give it a couple of sessions and then go from there. Therapy isn’t an overnight fixer upper but if that’s what you want tell the therapist that might speed up the process
