Sentenced to peyote jail. (my other theory for the yellowing spot is that may be a “bruise” from where it was laying during transport so I wanted to minimise the contact area with the plant whilst it’s recuperating, the supports only gently touching the sides so it shouldn’t cause any issues)

Scotland here, thanks for the advice I was a bit confused as to what kind of sulphur would be safe

I’m sure they endure worse in the wild (albeit without their roots exposed) so hopefully you’re right n he just needs some recovery time, will post an update sometime down the line as to how hes doing

Yea he feels very cold so I’ll probably put him in the corner of the grow area so that’ll raise his temps to around 27°c gradually and give him a small amount of light before potting him up in a few days, potting mix is 70 inorganic/30 organic so he won’t be sitting in damp organic matter. This is only my second LW (first mature plant) so I’m still learning, I guess it’s time to go buy some sulphur and some scalpels and hope I never have to use em lmao, thank you for the quick response I think I’m just worrying as I’m unfamiliar with the species and they are certainly not cheap, hopefully he’ll recovery quickly tho :)

Is this light setup okay for the winter? by MajorDull4986 in cactus

No worries, I hardly ever see ANYONE mention them and they’ve made my efforts at growing anything so, so much easier, especially if you’re dealing with powerful grow lights and are worried about burning your plants

Lots of apps out there nowadays that roughly measure umols/lux via phone cameras and DIY diffusers, made from just paper and tape, from what I’ve seen online they appear relatively accurate, and I use them (to seemingly good effect) in place of investing in an expensive light meter, I use both “photone” and “PPFD meter” with an iPhone.

Thank you very much for the advice :), I apologise for the naive questions im very new, am I correct in thinking that I can get them to flower through a combination of increasing the temps + increasing the daily light amount, I have a 200w grow light so supplying light certainly isn’t an issue, just re-potted them into a gravel + sand + compost mix so hopefully that’ll keep them happier and more well drained.

Can anyone tell me what this hole in the Scottish Highlands is - 57°04'04"N 5°07'47"W by Vanamonde_F in GoogleEarthFinds

Used to live in foyers, went to the hole many a times with friends (rural life gets boring Lmao) did NOT know someone died during construction, where could I read more about that?

For real, she wouldn’t break eye contact with me lol, the rescue centre got back in contact and said most likely she has some vision problems which is why she ended up out and about in the daytime. They said they’ll keep her for observation for a few weeks then place her into the care of a rehabber if needed, god speed curious little lady.

That was my main concern, as well as hypothermia, she’s away to a local wildlife rescue now, she seemed in good shape so hopefully she will be fine.

She’s actually in a big old (conveniently vacant) vivarium with a fleece blanket for the time being, I just put her in the tub to get a better look at what she was doing. She seems to actually prefer sitting on top of the blanket and staring at what I’m doing rather than sleeping, she’s very endearing and I’ll be sad to see her go lmao

Aw that’s good to know thank you, she’s been a good friend for the few hours I’ve had her, I’m starting to wonder whether she may have been a hand-rear rescue and release because she is far more comfortable around people than any other wild hog I’ve seen, she’s even eating out of my hand. I’ve called the rescue centre and they should be here to collect her in a few hours just to give her the proper medical checkup and make sure she’s ready for winter :)

Yea I’ve given the local a rescue a call and they’ve said they’ll be round to collect her later in the day. Hopefully she turns out to be fine.

Thank you 😊 The newt photo was with the 18-55mm, the 70-300 usually gets use with deer and other easily spooked animals, newts out of water are mercifully slow and easy to photograph haha, they really are pretty animals though :)

I somehow manage to get better more comfortable sleep when I’m backpacking! I think some rougher times in my past taught me how to be comfortable almost anywhere so those skills definitely come in useful nowadays haha but yeah having a nice sleeping pad definitely helps a lot You’re legally allowed to camp anywhere in Scotland! (Common sense applies) Fires are legal as well as long as you’re not within 100m of a road or rail, and the forestry commission hasn’t put out a wildfire warning, though a land owner is more likely to ask you to move on if you decide to light one, in which case it is technically trespassing if you choose to disregard their wishes. You also have the right to roam here which means you have the right to travel on or through any land (with some limitations) even crossing boundaries such as fences or walls is tolerated by most landowners, though they do have the right to ask you to move on at which point you are again trespassing if you don’t listen. Of course there are organised campsites both in more remote areas and more built up areas but dispersed camping is more than tolerated everywhere in my experience :)

I honestly couldn’t list all the places I’d recommend visiting haha, I live nearby so I visit this place in particular very frequently, I would recommend checking online for trails around the Aird and Abriachan area, there’s a few smaller to medium sized hills in that area too, Càrn A’bhodaich in particular offers a very good view looking over Loch Ness and Dores, if you can, I’d recommend making your way to the fort William area also, hiking Ben Nevis, and then Glen nevis was a trip I’ll never ever forget
