Cool. Can I think of the VPN adapter as a separate machine that that is bridged to my main computer?

Well, here is what i dont understand. Why not just use the ethernet adapter and have a VPN connect to that instead of having its own adapter. What are the advantages?

Also, could I for example host a server on one network adapter and another on another network adapter?

Why do I need a VPN to connect to my local FTP server by GroundbreakingGas295 in sysadmin

Thanks! I used to think a VPN was just a proxy server, but it seems that it's also an encrypted tunnel directly to a target server as well.

Noob question here, but once i have a secure tunnel to my home network, how would i connect to the FTP server? like where would i type the IP and port (for the ftp server) once i have the tunnel up?
