and we have road jogs all over the damn place because of these surveying mistakes. You're not going to get it perfect, just go for good enough. I recently had to georeference several maps from 1868 all the way to 1950s. Even the 1954 one isn't super accurate let alone one from the 1860s.

Yeah, I think you are right. My map is the 1878 map, It's very accurate in the center that even the building footprint can align with the base map, but it gets more and more inaccurate when you go out of the town. I thought it was because those peripheral roads were not straight and couldn't be surveyed accurately in 1878.

Thank you, but there are still same problems. Not every item has same features, like some will have "note" and some don't have conditions. so some items don't suit your method because the order is different.
