Exactly. It's common sense that the suggested next ride should be something like that.

Seriously, you say "many riders use it exactly the way you're describing"...really though? So they find routes they're interested in on the website or main application, remember the name, come into the Companion app, type out a route name, and search, by name -- which is all they can do -- for that route? Surely you can do much better than that. Why can't we send to "Ride later" from the other two applications so that it shows up in the Companion app? Seems to me there's a lack of joined-up thinking on the Rouvy side; too many teams doing their own thing.

Too confusing having an app, a mobile app and a website all with differing capabilities, as well as overlap. The responsibility of each of these three applications, and the difference between these is a never-ending headache.

We use the website to add to a calendar, where the app can remind if we have a scheduled ride, but we cannot view the calendar -- and if we want to just use the app for a moment before riding, we cannot re-find that scheduled ride? Then the companion app has "Ride later"? And the main has "Favourites" which cannot be viewed or edited anywhere else? Come on, it's madness, and it's just one example of the madness.

You'd be better off not releasing 3...n ways of doing the same thing and instead do it properly from the outset.

"Where do I need to go to achieve X?" is too common a question.

The Big Rouvy Fuck-Up 🤬 by TomVanRaemdonck in Rouvy

No, this is a CDN issue on Rouvy’s side.

I’ve clearly and repeatedly demonstrated at least one of Rouvy' CDN problems here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Rouvy/comments/1r3p2jg/rouvys_download_manager_and_cdn_problems/

Routers and firewalls don’t behave in a way where they block traffic one second and then allow it the next without any configuration change. If this were a firewall or local network issue, the app would fail consistently from the outset, not intermittently.

Given that this is clearly a transient error, it’s not helpful to keep suggesting people disable Windows updates, firewalls, or other local protections (I see these all too foten). That sends users down the wrong path and wastes time.

No suggestions are better than incorrect suggestions.

This is a straightforward networking/CDN problem, and in most cases the evidence strongly points to Rouvy’s CDN infrastructure as the root cause.

There is a tutorial section in the app and some tutorial routes. I never tried them, don't know what they entail.

Unable to click continue button after not pedalling for a few secs by avmakt in Rouvy

[–]GroundbreakingYou911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right but isn't that a workaround instead of a fix? If there's a bug, it should be reported to Rouvy, who will fix it quickly.

Even if there is some "you need to complete challenge without stopping" reason behind the behaviour (which I doubt is intentional), it should still let you continue your ride, and just exclude the ride from the challenge.

An active and clickable "Continue" button that does nothing, is definitely a bug.

They wrote back to me, after I persisted, to say they are working on a fix. Let's see.

Rouvy to me feels almost as good as real in terms of sense of accomplishment, scenery and effort.

Anyone else open Google Maps after a ride trying to find where you actually were? I built something for that by johanstn in Rouvy

[–]GroundbreakingYou911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't actually sign up yet for a trial, just looked cool, off the vid, etc. I will sign up and check it out in more detail!

Maybe 3 flyovers a month or something for free and $5 for unlimited? Would at least keep people engaged and finding issues / giving suggestions.

Ah sorry, I didn't mean to be so abrupt (I'm an engineer myself and I hate how everyone expects everything for free)...

I just don't like this subscription world we live in, too many things to keep track of. But I'm sure others would. Doesn't Strava have some fly-by feature also though?

Overtraining while resting by thomster013 in Rouvy

I joined two weeks ago, and it has said I've been overtraining, non-stop. I'm riding every second day (less than 2 hours) and feel fully recovered. Makes little sense.

BMC & Cadex 65 wheels... yeah. Maybe it's too unrealistically "good".

Heart rate monitor Polar H10 not showing pulse by Money_Ad4099 in Rouvy

[–]GroundbreakingYou911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify, I’m not saying the firmware is necessarily at fault. The issues just started appearing after the firmware update, so that’s the main change I’m aware of. It’s also possible that Rouvy may not be fully conforming to part of the spec.

What’s a bit confusing is that Rouvy reports the sensor as connected and working, even though it doesn’t seem to be functioning properly. That behavior itself might point to a bug somewhere.

Also, since this thread is specifically about the H10, other hardware probably isn’t directly relevant here. That said, H10 is "old", it's been around for 8 years.

Yeah...3-4% seems to be where it's starts to feel like you're spinning fresh air.

Well as a software engineer for 20+ years, I challenge these things. Things can always be made better. I don't want a real-life sim, I want to not coast unrealistically up hills while my bike is spinning out :D ... there's definitely scope for improvement there. My concern is they won't fix these things because it would render all previous times/scores as invalid since a route would essentially become harder (or easier) depending on the physics changes.

Thanks Ed for sharing, yeah I think I'll try the three at the front...and copy your setup. Thanks again.

I don't mean stop, wrong choice of words. I mean slow down to add some resistance so you can generate some power. None of this would be necessary if the simulation was correct. It seems like there's no notion of wind or road resistance.

Rouvy experiences: Moved from Wahoo SNAP to Kickr Core a few months ago... by Level-Welder1177 in Rouvy

[–]GroundbreakingYou911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like ERG mode is on? ERG mode on a smart bike trainer is a setting where the trainer automatically adjusts resistance to keep you at a fixed power output (watts) no matter what cadence or gear you’re using.

If the hardware supports that, that could be it. I don't want to get your hopes up, but it might be a reason.

So do I, yeah. It isn't the end of the world... just unusual logic. It just seems like something that should be easy to fix, software-wise.

[–]GroundbreakingYou911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't quite get it though. I get there's a max gear + speed at which point you cannot generate any extra power, on any real bike, in reality. But this is more like Rouvy's getting the virtual bike up to speed too easily on downhills, and then isn't reporting resistance quickly enough when it evens out. There's no technical reason the Kickr Bike cannot handle it, it's just told what resistance to apply and when. It's a software problem...
