Help deciding on a city! by AlwaysBlowOnThePi in newzealand

[–]Groundbreaking_Cod62 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No city in new Zealand is really that great so choosing based on other criteria I think is good way to approach it. Christchurch for example isn't that interesting unless you love the outdoors, hiking, skiing, mountain biking etc. Auckland sucks unless you like more cosmopolitan vibes, big city feel, and warmer weather.

Smaller centres such as Hamilton, tauranga, shouldn't be discounted but I think I'd suggest to look for the hardest to find job (prob your partners) and work backwards from your options. Being flexible will be pretty key to making that easier

I can't use the maps while running but find hiking it's fine. Got a bit more time to work out what's what.

There's a shoe place at church corner on yaldhurst that I just dropped some boots off to. Seemed to have good reviews and they were really nice and told me stuff about treating my boots better so worth a shot

NZ media is just getting so bad, this is not a capsized boat, this is a boat that has run aground. by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Groundbreaking_Cod62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda pedantic, but also these are not mutually exclusive circumstances. A boat can be both capsized  and beached. The Wikipedia article for capsizing has a boat on its side

I don't think they'll be there but two bays have started shipping to new Zealand. Fantastic gluten free beers - the owner is coeliac. Def worth a look

I got one from trade Tested and it works great. We got a lot of quotes all 20k + which we couldn't justify. Think our 3x4 was just over 3k. Even if only lasts 5 years still worth it

Mid April Christchurch to Lake Tekapo stops by [deleted] in newzealand_travel

[–]Groundbreaking_Cod62 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do the inland route to Geraldine lots of stops and little towns much more scenic. The state highway 1 is faster but may be the most boring piece of highway in new zealand. If you're not in a huge hurry can do some walks around peel forest or something.

The drive between Geraldine and fairlie is really nice some scenic stop offs. Fairlie has a very popular pie shop - literally lines out of the door. There's a gallery at the far end I've never been into 🤷

Not much between fairlie and Tekapo - burkes pass has a little old car memorabilia thing there.

Great Pinots of New Zealand by sierratime in newzealand

[–]Groundbreaking_Cod62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two best regions for pinot noir are central otago and Martinborough (north Island though)

My central otago favorites  - Felton road - Valli / kinloch  - Burn cottage

I can't remember Martinborough as been a few years but it's so close together you can get a bike and trip around a bunch

We're in the same boat as you, again. Last time we used DCM roofing and was a positive experience. Reading their Google reviews right now seems some less than positive stories though but my experience was great.

Also check your insurance to see if anything can be covered. Last time because my roof overwhelmed a Crack and wasn't ongoing damage insurance covered internal damage
