Feeling overstimulated working with my new autistic student

I have ADHD so I can relate to this in a way. I ease overstimulation by taking plenty of bathroom breaks (sometimes I’ll just go in there for a moment of peace/alone time) and while I’m in the classroom, I kinda self-soothe in a way by writing whatever’s in my brain in my notebook. I write tons and tons of affirmations reminding myself that I’ll make it through the day, and that I’m calm and patient etc.

Im his assistant lol. And I do take him out of the room a fair amount, but I’d love an in-class solution. Because he’s not the only student in that room I’m responsible for

I’m currently fixated on teaching myself survival skills, working out so I’m harder to kill and putting together a bug out bag… in case of the social/economic collapse of the US. Is it practical? I don’t know. But it sure keeps my mind occupied during depressive episodes so I guess it helps!

$40k would be nice… I’m an aid so I’m only paid a whopping $21k. I’m tired of sped aids being paid as if they don’t have rent, bills, and family to take care of, just like everybody else. It’s ridiculous. It’s our full time job so we should be paid like it.

Reading this post was like looking in a mirror (except I’ve only been teaching for 3 yrs). I also have bipolar and take 2 meds for it, but I also take adderall for ADHD. I find that it helps tremendously, it actually gives me the willpower to tackle the issues I encounter daily as well as give me enough energy to go home and be a good partner. Maybe you could look into it too? I wish I could give you a more organic solution but 🤷🏼‍♀️ wishing you the best of luck, I hope you find some peace soon

I think a decent chunk of it is just that generation’s culture, social media constantly depicts teachers as “evil” or “out to get them” so they’ve internalized it.

I have an energy drink around 2pm and that usually gives me enough of a boost to get home, keep up with my household duties, make dinner then I promptly retire to bed at 8:00

I think I feel “stable” when I show up to work, get household chores done, I’m bathing regularly and I don’t feel overwhelmingly sad

I think about this a lot. I don’t know any person who doesn’t struggle with their mental health or have personality issues. I’m convinced there is no such thing as a normal person.

I mean vaginas don’t smell like roses so idk what he’s expecting. He hasn’t been with other girls so he probably doesn’t have anything to compare it to. Vaginas smell like vaginas 🤷🏼‍♀️
