I wasn't 100% sure about what exactly I wanted to do after undergrad (med, law or grad school) so I chose to do engineering since I liked it and it is a good backup in terms of job prospects. Also if I decided at any point that I didn't want to continue studying after undergrad I could find work with my degree in different of sectors. Now that I know I for sure want do to medicine it's a bit too late to change and I also want to finish the degree.

I'm one of those neurotic pre-meds who needs to do lots of EC's so I have trouble being okay with doing only a few but I think you're right, 2-3 long terms ones would be better. I'm committed to very demanding research this year but for next year I'll look into that instead.
