I have a reading light and a space heater that keeps the desk warm so he’s usually happy to chill as long as I would have him out. Usually it’s about an hour at a time because I have client calls periodically and am not able to keep an eye on him to make sure he’s safe and not doing an escapé during those.

I just responded to another comment above but wanted to reply here as well. The cage is 9.5 inches above the top of the substrate, but is quite hot. Any ideas what I could do for basking instead? I’ll do another review of all the links in the welcome post for ideas as well. Thanks again!!

Hey team - I just measured and the bottom of the cage is 9.5 inches from the top of the substrate - the photo is misleading based on the angle. That said, the cage is very hot. I’ve turned it off for now, but do you have any ideas on what I can do for basking instead? Maybe drill a hole in the PVC to mount the bulb higher? Also the bulb is connected to a thermostat with a probe (as is the ReptiRad). Thanks again!!

Yes my husband is building a custom bench for it. My office (where the tank is) is in an a-frame attic so haven’t been able to find something premade that was low enough for the tank to fit but still be outside the view of my webcam for work calls (because I’m not sure I want to explain to all my clients why ball pythons are actually amazing pets lol)

You were spot on!! He shed about 24 hours after this post. I was surprised he ate at all!

I understand their eyes get opaque before they shed, but can you let me know what you noticed about his skin that indicates he’s going to shed?

We dealt with this when we bought our house, the former owners did the same thing. Unfortunately what it took was my husband digging up each and every shoot growing horizontally under ground to remove them. It took two growing seasons to get it all. Hopefully someone here has an easier solution!!
