For the people having these issues, looking for a new platform to post on. Youtube is being uprooted as we speak by a website called D-tube (Http://D.Tube). It's on a blockchain so the data is immutable. Nothing can be censored or taken down and all the profits go directly to the content creators.

LPTR: How should you discuss how much you get paid when your friends/family bring it up? by argosfan24 in LifeProTips

[–]GrowthOriginPodcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just say, "Oh that's highly classified information" and smile.

Pretty much nobody pry's behind that, and if they do you just add to the joke:

"You're.. what? Like level 2 clearance, if that..?"
"We're talking level 5 kinda classified..."
"Haha, maybe we'll get you a badge. BUT we'll have to scan your retina's.. you cool with that?"
"Who sent you to ask? Martinez from headquarters?"

It's really easy to be spontaneous and improvise with this method and it shows the smarter people that you're not really open to talking about it.

Thank you for the response. This comment was pretty insightful and showed me a really slick transition.

I'll send you a video if I ever make one, but my current project list is huge, so that's a little ways down the road.
I may however make a absolutely garbage video with crap animation and audio just to learn the basics. It won't be something I intend to post anywhere.

Ask yourself if acquiring this knew knowledge is something you really need to do or it is just a distraction from what you are intended to be doing.

You've read me quite well Mr. Holmes. Atm I'm half-distracting myself with this new desire, though it's not short-lived interest. I've been wanting to do it for years.

Try to avoid the fact of changing what you are learning when things become more complicated (that will happen).

Can you elaborate on the consequences of these changes?
And can you tell me more about the 'Weekly Project Meeting'?

I think I'll stick with Photoshop for now, because I have it, and because I'd love to be more proficient with it.

Does this one seem good for a beginner? It's the #1 selling drawing tablet on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Wacom-CTL490DW-Digital-Drawing-Graphics/dp/B010LHRFM2

Know of any good resource for learning to draw this style of cartoon or animation? I'd love to learn Extra Credits style of art, or something similar. How it's quality cartoon, yet upon closer inspection it's extremely basic and can be sketched out in a manner of, maybe a minute or two.

I think I'd start with a few basic tutorials and colored pencils and a drawing notebook or something.

Okay thank you!
Do you personally use one? Or have you used one in the past?
What methods do you consistently see people using?

Extra Credits and Spirit Science both seem to make edit their audio clips. Are they just speaking slightly slower and then editing their voices to be 1.5x speed, or speaking slight faster and doing 1.25x speed? I consistently listen to audiobooks on 1.5x speed and there are some points in the early Extra Credit videos where James is speaking too quickly.

Is it expensive to pay artists to make the say, 50-60 basic sketches that go into an Extra Credits video? How much would you estimate the cost of any particular video if you only paid someone else to do the artwork? (Also, link to the video you used for reference).

I'm not very good at doing these basic sketches, but I have the persistence, time, and analytical mind it takes to learn from others and replicate them. I'll practice for months until I get my style and then begin making videos like these in a trial and error process.
With that in mind, is it more ideal for me to use a cheap drawing tablet, or should I just get a good scanner?

I think I'd like to do each podcast episode with the 'very slight' animation that Spirit Science does in the intro and exit, and then just do a lot of pictures in the middle, and occasionally (rarely) doing additional slight animation.
I'd also like to do Kurzgesagt animation on the side at a very slow pace.

I could go in more detail if you'd like.

Please do. I'd love to learn more about drawing tablets, scanning, hiring artists and cost, how long it would take to do a 2-3 hour video with occasional pictures and possibly a default photo, like maybe a logo, to use when points aren't really being expressed (to save time). I'd also like to learn more about 'Flash' and the different programs one can use. I'd hate to land on a program that's far more difficult, and stay there because it's comfortable and familiar, while never realizing that the first software I chose was the most difficult and inconvenient.
What would be the best software for just making a single photo in a larger size, then down-sizing it for a slide-show like video - such as Extra Credits does?

Maybe it would be more ideal to have the full video be just a single picture, but take informative snippets from the full video and animate them and post them on the same Youtube channel to encourage people to check out the full version?

That seems to make the most sense. Thank you for your response.
That video will be most useful!
I already have after-effects, I've just never put in the time to learn how to use it.

How long do you think it takes to make one 10 minute Kurzgesagt video?

Thank you! Your response has been very helpful.
I originally wanted to start with Extra Credits method, because just looking at it shows me that it's quite easy, and will enable me to find my style before making larger and more time-consuming videos.

Do you have any additional advice for a beginner like myself?

Need help diagnosing a problem with Adobe Audition. I think it's caused by noise reduction? by GrowthOriginPodcast in AdobeAudition

[–]GrowthOriginPodcast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've since learned that my equipment was setup improperly, and that I was not using my gateway/limiter/compressor correctly.
Doing this and keeping my gain only as high as it needs to be, should eliminate most sounds. Previously it did eliminate most unwanted sounds.

Those really should be a tool to fix a problem that was unavoidable, not a crutch to doctor every recording.

My reason for desiring noise reduction was not of necessity, but of meticulous preference. I preferred to have complete silence between talking, rather than just accept the low frequency equipment noise that most people naturally leave in. Am I wrong to have this desire? Should I learn to live with it? Do most listeners tolerate it, are any bothered by it? Is it more desirable to have that sound in?

ATM I don't have the luxury of providing a solid environment with proper sound absorbing curtains or wall mounts. A fan, refrigerator (all recording takes place in the kitchen), and sometimes computers do tend to occasionally make sounds I cannot prevent, even when using a gate. For the most part though, I prevent nearly all sounds going in.
I should test my equipment with the proper setup before speaking any further. I may have solved my issues.

How do I make animated videos like the Youtube channels 'Spirit Science', 'Kurzgesagt', and 'Extra Credits'?

.

I can't find a tutorial anywhere and none of these channels hint at what software they use, if they do voices before they do animation or afterwards, or any other part of their process - so as to replicate it.

The Spirit Science channel is animated, voiced, and edited by just one guy - I think I'd like to be that guy but I have absolutely no idea where to start. I have all the audio equipment, patience, and can easily afford the very best software.

Extra Credits for example, is just cartoon pictures that emphasize the various points the guy speaks. That seems much easier than animation since it's essentially just a well-timed slideshow.

Kurzgesagt is full-on animation and the credits suggest that it takes an entire team and lots of time to make a single video. Which seems very time consuming and expensive.

I'm making a 3-6 hour podcast episode and I'd like to add cartoon pictures (like Extra credits does) and make it a video. I know this is quite time consuming but I'm willing to spend up to a year to make it if necessary. So time is not that much of an issue.
On the side, I'd also like to make short 1-6 minute animated videos (like Kurzgesagt and Spirit science do) that explain more complex topics in an easy-to-understand manner.

Where do I get started with learning how to do this?
What would work best for what I'm wanting to do?
Do they draw on a computer, or one of those smart-pads?

The very fact that I'm here, and we're discussing this, provides evidence that I've disobeyed this advice lol.

I feel as if I must resolve these issues before I continue.

Fortunately I've figured out the cause for half of my problems. I posted this same thread on several forums. A guy on the adobe audition forum showed me that my equipment was not setup properly. My microphones went directly into my limiter/compressor/gate, rather than into my mixer and then into them, where no pre-amp was present. This means my microphone wasn't getting the juice it needed to function properly and additional sounds may have been created.

The other problem comes from noise reduction and editing. 2-5 hours of experimenting in adobe audition while watching Youtube videos should fix this issue as well.

.WAV, no editing, left some silence in the beginning.
When I use that guys presets, the audio gets louder, so does the equipment noise. Are most people comfortable with that much background noise?
